Shake it or tap it against the ground; if it loses greifli needles, you don't want it. The branches should also bend easily when you shake them. Keep the tree outside until you are ready to decorate it, making sure that you water it often. The stand must be sturdy enough so it won't tip and at the same lime should hold at least one gallon of water.
