Volume EUREKA, UTAH - September 25, 1998 Ninety-Thre- e Number 39 Price $.40 0 Untie High School Marching Band Road shed roof bad During a recent County Commission meeting, Robert Day reported on his findings in inspecting two buildings for the Commissioners. The first building was the old Jeep Patrol building west of the railroad THSBandnens The THS Marching Band performed at the Tintic Silver Festival in Eureka on August 15th. They also marched in Payson for their Onion Day's celebration on September 7th. Many compliments were given on "how good the band sound- ed". The first THS Band Booster meeting was held September 15th. There was a great turnout, as parents attended to show their support for the THS band pro- gram. Mr. Bates, THS Band Director, brought up concerns of parents about getting new band uniforms. Many good ideas were expressed. Mr. Bates asked for volunteers to form a planning committee to choose the new uniforms. Six parents volunteered. Also discussed were possible fund raising ideas to pay for the new uniforms and upcoming events (such as field trips, competitions, and performances in a variety of areas). Officers were elected as follows: Debbie Gourley, President; Tammy Meyers, Vice President; and Denise Hannifin, Secretary. Anyone interested in becoming involved in the THS Booster Club or in ay of the fund raising activities, may contact any of the officers or Mr. Bates. Day replied that he docs not know how to do' metal roofing.. someone would have to be hired to complete the roofing. The second building Day inspected was the Mammoth Road Shed. He reported that the roof is in worse shape than the first building. It will need to be totally replaced.. stripped down to the wood. He estimated the S8.000-- S 10,000. cost being Another problem with this building being the water storage tank, which has a leak and cannot maintain water for the boiler. Commissioner Lunt suggested that what is needed is a new building. The old building also needs 5 fire extinguishers. Day said. If you would like to have your birthdays and anniversaries included on this year's calendar, please contact Vince Bates or Tammy Myers. Also, if there were mistakes in last year's calendar, let us know and they will be corrected. We need to have all information in to send the order by October 10th. The calendars will be available for purchase from band students in December. The Six County Association ' Governments, in cooperation with the Utah Department of Transportation, has undertaken a study to determine the needs of public transportation in the Six County Region comprising Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne Counties. The study focused on determining the feasibility of providing public transportation services. The firm of Leigh, Scott & Cleary, Inc. was hired to assist in the public transportation study. Members of the project team met with local agencies and elected officials. All local residents were given the opportunity to provide input and comments by completing a questionnaire which was published in local newspapers, given out at various meetings, and available on the LSC website. A public meeting was held in Richfield and meetings of the Technical Advisory Committee were open to the public' to provide additional input. Estimates of transit need were made and the areas with the greatest needs identified. Those areas with the highest concentration of public transportation need were in Richfield, Nephi, and EphraimManti. The study team looked at various ways of meeting these needs for public transportation. A Draft Report has been prepared and submitted to the Utah Department of Transportation and the Six County AOG. The report is available for review at the AOG offices in Richfield. The Draft Report describes the public transportation needs and the feasibility of meeting those needs. The Draft Report contains the following recommendations: 1. The AOG should establish a Transit Advisory Board which will be responsible for implementing the public transportation recommendations for the Six County Region.
