Jeremy brought a computer which he and Dad, John, Jr built for Grandma. week They had a which included horseback riding and swimming at The Homestead at Midway, Utah; swimming at the Payson Municipal Pool; and attending the Ute Stampede Rodeo. They also enjoyed driving around the mountains surrounding Eureka. On Saturday, July 11th, fun-fill- Grandma Edie ed accompanied them on Amtrak for their return to Portland. It was an enjoyable train trip. They rode on coach on the California Zephyr to Emeryville, California, where they transferred to a family sleeper on the Coast Starlight to Portland. The kids didnt do much sleeping.. they spent most of their time in the observation car. Edie stayed a week with them in Portland before flying home. Highlight of the Portland visit was attendance at the touring Broadway show "Chicago", starring Alan Thicke. Saturday, enjoying the annual breakfast at the Lawrence and Edna Ala homestead. Breakfast was served to 69 people during the hours 7:00 - 10:00 a.m. The Ophir Days festivities also were going on with free hot dogs and lemonade, a tour of Town Hall and a ride up and down Ophir Main Street. The Alas festivities ended with a potluck lunchdinner (after which, no one could hold more food!) A special treat for the Alas was four out of their six children were there. Lots of visiting, food and fun wasnt even dampened too much by the sudden downpour about noon.
