The hunt, to be held Oct. 31 - Nov. 6 in eastern Box Elder County, will be Utahs first sharp-taile- d grouse hunt since Utahs 1998 1979. A total of 663 permits will be issued. Except for a $5 handling fee, theres no cost for a permit. Each hunter who draws a permit may take a total of two birds during the seven-da- y hunt. Applications will be available by July 27, from hunting license agents statewide and Division of Wildlife Resources offices in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Spring-vill- e, Vernal, Price and Cedar City. The Divisions two Hunter Education centers.. the Lee Kay Center for Hunter Education, 6000 W. 2100 S. in Salt Lake City and the Cache Valley Hunter Education Center, 2831 W. Valley View HWY in Logan., will be closed July 27. Hunters may pick up applications from the Lee Kay Center beginning July 29 and from the Cache Valley Center, beginning July 30. Health notes Drug manufacturers are finally making a push to design medications specifically for children. Until recently, doctors had to play guessing games when prescribing adult drugs for their smaller patients. This year, there are 187 childrens medications awaiting government testing or approval, a 28 percent increase over last year. Among the new drugs are a brain cancer treatment, a vaccine to prevent middle ear infections and nasal spray flu vaccine.
