Show Page Two - The Eureka Reporter - March 26, 1993 Obituaries Ellen Fox family enjoys temple tour Alice Fox from Eureka, and her two daughters, Arlene Stoneman and Stella Evans, of Spanish Fork, took a Temple Tour South, traveling with two tour bus loads of wonderful people. The buses left Provo at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (15th), making stops along the way for the people on both buses to get acquainted, pick up snacks, have lunch, etc. They went though St. George, Utah, headed for Las Vegas. In Las Vegas, the groups were taken to the Excalibur Hotel, where they settled in on the 14th floor. Having some free time in the evening, they took in King Arthur's Court Tournament, where they watched the show, commenting on s, the beauty of the knights technical and horses the the effects. Needless to say, they were tired after a very busy day. On the 1 6th, they woke up to a beautiful Tuesday morning, and prepared to board the buses for a tour of the magnificent Las Vegas Temple. After some picture taking, the buses headed for Baker, Calif., where everyone enjoyed lunch. Then on to San Diego, where they checked into the Days Inn, and attended the open house to see the newly completed temple. On March 17, the buses left early for the long ride to Van Nuys, Calif. Alice noted that they enjoyed seeing the trees, flowers, and especially the California poppies along the roadside. In Van Nuys, they stayed at the Carriage Inn for two nights and took a tour of the cos-tume- Los Angeles Temple. They stopped in Hollywoood, where they had a hamburger that cost $7.20, said Alice. Activities on Thursday, the 1 8th, included a tour of Universal Studios, which they found very interesting. In the evening, every- one dressed up for a performance of the Phantom of the Opera. . Ellen Jane Champion Patience, 81, died March 20, 1993 in Salt Lake City, Utah, of age related complications. She was born Feb. 4, 1912 in Mammoth, Utah, the daugter of Edward and Elizabeth Champion. She married George L. Patience March 28, 1930. She was a licensed practical nurse and had worked in many hospitals in the Salt Lake City area; most recently in the Veterans Hospital where she retired. Survived by her son, George Edward Patience, Sandy; daughter, Corinne Hathaway, West Valley City; sister, Millicent Coombs, West Jordan; eight grandchildren, and 27 Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 24, 1993, at Redwood Memorial Estates, in Salt Lake City. Interment was a Redwood Memorial Estates. great-grandchildr- CATHOLIC p.m. Father Walter was celebrant for the Laetare Sunday Mass at St. Patrick's Church. Laetare Sunday is the joyful Sunday of Lent. Father was assisted by Martin Fennell, lector; and Joe Bernini, Eucharistic Minister. Thethemewas Spiritual Blindness Cured by the Light of the World." Entrance hymn was Praise to the Lord. Scripture readings were taken from the first book of Samuel ; the letter of Paul to the Ephesians, and the gospel of John. In his homily, Father counseled that we should keep our eyes awake and our ears alert, in order to be aware of Christs presence among us. Recessional hymn was Now Thank We All Our God. Students sent in their writings to be judged in different categories such as short stories, poetry, etc. High schools all across the country participated in the event. Whitney Hyzers piece, entitled Mr. Green and His Amazing Cheese Processor, was chosen from more than 25,000 entries. Students work from all classes will be displayed at the National School Board Convention in Anaheim, Calif., March 27. activities and congratulations extended to the new officers: Exalted Ruler, NickCastleton; Leading Knight, Lynn Brady; Loyal Knight, Roland Carrington; Lecturing Knight, Chad Allinson; Secretary, R.C. This event was held in lieu of our regular meeting. Director Joan Dale was in charge of the reservations. Transportation for the dinner was furnished by the senior citizens bus, driven by Ed Webber, and private cars. The drive up there was quite pleasant, but when it was time to return home, Mother Nature took charge and there was a heavy rainstorm in progress, with a noisy and bright thunder and lightening display, that lasted all the way back to Eureka. Opening hymn was He Leadeth me, O Blessed Thought. Scripture readings were from the first book of Samuel; the letter of Paul to the Ephesians, and the gospel according to John. Patience According to the group, the production, music and acting was out of this world. Friday was departure day and the trip back to Utah was begun. Lunch stop was at the Prima Donna in Barstow, Calif. The place was full of tourists, said Alice. There were many attractions there, including a ferns wheel outside and a carousel inside. Stops were made at North Las Vegas and Mesquite, Nev. , and then on to their destination, St. George, Utah, where they stayed at the Comfort Inn. On Saturday morning (20th), they attended a session in the beautiful St. George Temple. The buses picked everybody up outside the temple, and started homeward. After a stop in Scipio to let two passengers off, the group headed for Provo and from there, to their homes in Spanish Fork and EuTintic Lodge BPOgOTll held reka. Fish culture coordinator Ron Creer says high stream flows are not good for fish stocking. "If streams are too high, it isnt feasible to plant fish because the high water is too turbid, cold and swift. The fish could be washed right out of the system.
