Show Page Four The Eureka Reporter County agent gets new office March 22, 1M1 Statewide testing could help to implement program in schools One of the major contributions that can result from the statewide testing program initiated in Utah last year will be to help local schools and districts to implement the "shift in focus" program that was endorsed by the Stale Board of Education several years ago. This was the opinion of Utah Foundation, the private research organiat ion, in its analysis of Utahs statewide testing program. The "shift in locus" concept is designed to focus on the needs of the individual student and to adapt the educational system to best meet those needs rather than the traditional concept of requiring all students to adapt themselves rigidly to the existing educational system. This significant change in the basic approach to public edu- cation in Utah was the subject a research report issued by Utah Foundation in September, by that school. Glenn Greenhalgh, director of Juab County Community Economic Development, and Golden Mangelson, chairman of the agency board, recently requested that the county commission consider a change. "The board feels that we need to ask for your help. Our economic development pro- th ram has had an (,mcc county center since its in- ception several years ago," said Mangelson. "During this time the agen-th- e cy has been trying to improve the quality of the information that we produce." The agency has invested in additional com- putcr equipment and printers. There was only room for two people to jam into the office across from Greenhalgh s desk, Also, said 1ungclson, we feel that time has come to up grade the image projected hy the economic development office. This includes companies visiting our area on site selection visits, but also includes existing business representatives and officials."
