Leonard (Shorty) Ryan Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock at the Eureka Methodist Church for Leonard A. (Shorty) Ryan who died July 16, 1984 in Salt Lake City. He was born July 31, 1907, in Park City, Utah, the son of Louis James and Cecelia Treveathen Ryan. He was married to Eleanor La Von Drussell, October 15, 1930, in Eureka. She proceeded him in death on October 17, 1965. Shorty was well known in the Tintic Mining District working from 1929 to 1935 as a miner, from 1935 to 1940 as a foreman at the North Lily and from 1940 to 1951 as superintendent of the same mine. From 1951 to his retirement in 1974 he worked as mine superintendent at the Filtrol Corporation Dragon Mine. During these years Shorty far exceeded the time spent by any other management executive and contributed much to the ad- vancement of mining technique over that period. He was known as a civic booster and a friend to count on when personal assistance was needed. He was a member of the Eureka Methodist Church, past master of Tintic Lodge No. 9, F & AM, and member and worthy patron of the Tintic Chapter No. 18, Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by one son, Barton L. Ryan, Payson; two daughters, Mrs. Maury (Bonnie) Newman, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Thomas (Shanna) Kokal, Gillette, Wyoming; a brother, Louis J. Ryan, Eureka; a sister, Mrs. Cecelia Gourley, Eureka; eight grandchildren and ten great- - grandchildren.
