Alter nine years of construction, paving and other improvements on t he scenic roadway are completed. The federal highway prqject wrapped up last summer. In 1982,thenarrowdirtandgravel road, which traverses spectacular scenery as it winds its way through Summit and Duchesne counties, was nominated for fUnding through the National Forest Highway program. Construction work didnt begin until 1993, and was expected to be completed in 2000. Work was delayed for a time while federal iUnds were short. A landslide also slowed progress. The tab on the prqject reached approximately $30 million. The Wolf Creek Pan road prqject begins five miles northwest ofHanna in Duchesne County and ends six miles east of Woodland in Summit County. It provides a more direct and more safe route for residents of Duchesne Countys east aide to travel to the Wasatch Front, while allowing Wasatch Front residents easier access to recreational opportunities in Duchesne County. The majority of the road traverses forest land, and haa been brought up to highway standard to accommodate speeds of 35 to 45 miles per hour. It will remain open until thia foil. Improvements made along the rood have significantly boosted property values in the area. Residents warned to be cautious at mailboxes By Susan Collier Last week the United States Post a directive to residents of the entire state requiring that all curbside mailbox doors be secured in an open position. Customers were also instructed to report anything suspicious around their boxes to local law enforcement personnel. The directive was prompted by theaighting in southern Utah ofapipe bomb suspect who officials thought was responsible for injuring four letter carriers and two residents in others states. Alter the suspect was sighted, all rural letter carriers south of Provo returned to their respective post offices for the remainder of the day. The safety of our employees, the American public and the sanctity of the mail are our primary concerns, said Stephen L. Johnson, manager of the Sal t Lake City District of the UU. Postal Service. The open door safeguard haa also been implemented in Colorado, Nebraska, lowa, and Northwest Illinois where pipe bombs have been found. The bombs did not move through the mail and were not delivered with the mail. Although the suspect was arrested last Tuesday, May 7, in Nevada alter a high-spee- d chase, Finn Stuart, Roosevelts postmaster, said the open door requirement would remain in effect in the Roosevelt area at least through Saturday, May 11. We feel fairly secure and ok up here. The suspect didnt come through thia area, explained Stuart. Stuart did express minor concerns about the possibility of a copy cat bomber. Its a tough one. We want to make sure it is safe for our employees and customers. Ifour carriers have any concerns theyve been told to take it (the mail) up to the door. Ifcustomers have problems call 911 and have a police officer come out. Office issued HONORED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT A representative from the Utah Peace Officer Association presents Lynette Gurr. the wife of late Roosevelt Police Chief Cecil Gurr, with the Purple Heart and Award of Valor at the annual Utah Peace Office Memorial held last week at the Utah State Capitol. Gurr died in the line of duty 10 months ago. Chief Gurrs name will be placed on a memorial in Washington, D.C. this week. Just To Let You Know Be sure to buckle up and slow down, cops will be out in force Uintah Basin law enforcement officers will be pulling extra duty later thia month. From May 20 - 27, which includes the Memorial Day weekend, area roadways will be heavily patrolled by officers checking for seatbelt use, speed, and other violations. A Utah Highway Safety grant awarded to the Roosevelt Police Department will provide binding for officers to work overtime in order to promote safe driving. We will be isauinga lot of citations and very few warnings," said Roosevelt Police Sgt. J.C. Hansen. We want everyone to be aafe. Cars can be fixed, but lives cant. The increase in pedestrian traffic and motorists due to the Memorial Day holiday and the end of school heightens the need for extra patrols, he said. Accordingtostatistics, every hour someone dies in America simply because they did not buckle up. Failure to buckle up still contributes to more fatalities than any other traffic safety behavior. Research shows that those who do not fasten their seatbelts are sending children a deadly message that its all right not to wear a seatbelt. Seventy percent of tlie time, ifa parent does not have their aeatbelt on, children are not buckled up. Residents are also reminded to lock their vehicles when they leave them. A car was stolen from tlie front of a Roosevelt home last week. It was recovered by BIA officers before the owner knew it was missing. The keys had been left in the car. i Forget the phone call... GIVE MOM THE PHONE The Crud Were you one of the fortunate ones who got the CRUD this year. It was a respiratory sickness that consisted of sinus problems with lungs being congested and bouts of coughing. Do you still have it? I am sure that you were given medications and try to cure it. I have had some patients come into my office and they have had the symptoms of this CRUD for over 4 weeks. If you still have the same symptoms, or are having some of the symptoms. may I suggest Diathermy. This unit has been around since the 940s . The diathermy helps your body to produce white blood cells making it possible for your body to cure itself. The heat from the diathermy when used in your body produces white blood cells. For example: When you have a little cut on your finger, it gets red and warm. This is a sign that healing is taking place. Your body is manufacturing white blood cells. Now remember this. No Drug cures anything. Example: Penicillin does not cure anything. Penicillin, when injected in the body will slow down the growth of the invasive bacteria and allow the body time to build white blood cells and overcome the infection. If you been on drvgs, your immune system has been compromised. The drqgs kill the good and the bad bacteria. You need to rebuild your immune. system up so that your body can function on it own healing power. Acidophilus contains billions of friendly bacteria that work in your body. Thus, when taken it supports your immune system. It also tastes real good. Has your baby been on drugs? Take liquid acidophilus, it really works. Any questions?
