' WS2z Dale Jablonski, Area FIGHTING FIRES BEFORE THEY HAPPEN Manager, State Lands and Forestry, explains how s community can provide the solutions in preventing a wildland fire from spreading. Training was provided to Fruitland residents so they can develop a fire plan and receive funding for implementation. ; ; Fruitland area residents become fire prepared Twenty-seve- n Fruitland resident! gave up their Friday and Saturday to learn how to better protect their community in case of catastrophic wildland Are. The State of Utah identified Fruitland as a high risk area where huge losses could occur in the event of an uncontrolled Are. This WRsaunique workshop, "said Dale Jablonski, Area Mu nager forStale Lands and Forestry, "where private landowners learn how to help themselves and act as a community. People representing Fruitland, Clark Estates, Pinnacle Home Owners, Bandanna Ranch, Pinyon Ridge, Red Creek, and Edge Retreat identified issues. The group listed partners and resources that might be available to them. The residents received numerous tips on how to better protect their property. Cleaning up is essential not only to the individual home but the community. Participants quickly understood that if a Are starts on their neighbors property, it could easily spread to their own. The group decided to work on a Fire Plan aa a community as opposed to several areas within Fruitland. The group understood that they have a stronger position in obtaining resources with a larger number of people. A plan will identity all the needs to protect property owners and associated costs. Some needs identi-Ae- d in the first meeting include clean ing up property with an emphasis on absentee landowners, education, Water sources for initial attack, installing signs, and consistent Are restrictions. The next meeting will be May 10 at 7 p.m. in the Fruitlund Fire station. Everyone is encouraged to brings list of things that need to be done in their area as well as (folding chair. All are welcome. Georg Adams, Duchesne County, saw this workshop as an excellent start to getting county support: "I was pleased to Bee the enthusiasm and willingness of the Fruitlund residents to take responsibility for their community."
