Myton graders shine in their performance of Nanny Goats Gruff 3rd The 3" grade students in Gloria Jones' class put on a musical for parents, grandparents, friends, stafland students Friday, Feb. 8 at Myton Elementary. The familiar story of the Three BilJyGoaU Gruff was adapted to music which was sung and acted out in the form of a musical drama. The opera gave the children the opportunity to d explore music, poetry, drama, art. It created a theme-baseatmosphere within the classroom which inspired the students to read and write about goals and trolls. Alter the performance, everyone was served cheese and crackers, muffins ant i . ice. As a culminating activity students will be treated to banana splits at Hicken's Lodge for a job well done. From the 5 grade, Chase Seeley, from AJtamont Elementary, won I1 place in the essay contest, Shayla F randsen also from Altamont Elementary took home 2" place, and Heather Allred from Duchesne Elementary placed 3. They received $25, $15, and $10 respectively. Chase Seeley also won 2" place in the Utah Farm Bureau 2001 contest in November. He received $50 for his essay. The Jr. High division of the essay con test was won by Brittany Stansfield from Altamont Jr.- - Sr. High. She also won lplaoe in the Utah Farm Bureau Essay Contest. She received $25 from Duchesne County Farm Bureau and $75 from the Utah Farm Bureau. The Duchesne County poster contest, kindergarten through third grade division, was won by Kaity Wall from Myton Elementary. Lara Richens, also from Myton Elementary, took 2" place, and Amerie Strebel, from Tabiona. placed 314. They receivwd $ 1 5, $10 and $5 respectively. Kaity Wall also won place in the Utah Farm Bureau poster contest. Nikki Whiting took first place in the Drill Down and Heidi Heward took third place in Drill Down. Joyce Orton, the drill teams coach, was named Coach of the Year for all the 3A schools in Utah. Way to go, Ms. Orton! Cory Benlz qualified to swim at the 3A State Swim meet. With an improved time of four seconds, he placed 20 overall in the 100 yard breaststroke. Laura Wight waa sewinlected as an Academic ner in the 3A State Swimming. Union had a talent show for students to participate in on Feb. 5.
