I'm sorry you didnt eiyoy the pageant, but from the comments I heard, as people left many were pleased with it. All the girls did a wonderflil job! Susie also did a great job with a group that size. But of course eveiyonecan't win. Judgingis one persons opinion and not everyone will always agree with them. I would like to add a little insight to some of your questions. You wondered why so may of the queens belonged to Susies Dance Edition, well there were 38 contestants and 34 of them were in Dance Edition so no wonder so many were queens. My daughter was crowned one of the queens, and yes she is in Dance how can you sit there and say the girls that were crowned did not deserve it? As for girls not winning because they belong to Roosevelt Stars is a very wrong assessment. My daughter has been dancing with Susie since she was two and never once have I to hear Susie talk bad of them. Soyour statement is very untrue. As to mothers helpingback stage, I was one of them and don't appreciate being accused of things. They needed lielp, I don't know too many people that will help and get no money for their trouble. So don't make accusations until the facts are known, I want to thankyou for the chance you gave me to teach my daughter of sportsmanship and losingwith pride knowing she had done her best and that's all she can do. She knows she's still my queen no matter how she Edi-tionB- ut places. I am grateful for all Susie does for the children ofthe Uintah Basin . She is honest, hard working and very giving of herself. She did not get compensated at all for all the work and effort put into the pageant, do you think she cared? No she was just happy to do it. She would never rig a pageant for her own personal gain. I feel she deserves an apology for all the negative things your letter suggested. We need more just like Susie, out there to better our youth. We are sure that most, if they realize it is a concern to their customers, will be willing to cover the magazines inappropriate for children . Thankyou for your help in making Vernal a better place. Sincerely Benjamin and Julie Flake Dear Editor, We feel as members of our community, we each have a duty to help keep Vernal free from pornography, a cause of so many social ills. As Phil Buress has said, Softcore pornography and legal pornography are the worst because they start our children on the path to addiction." Here in Vernal, as in many cities, there is a problem, although many of us have grown so accustomed to it thnt we hardly recognize it as pornography. Every time we shop in local stores we are shocked, embarrassed, and sometimes alarmed at the pictures displayed on magazine covers, usually at just the right height for children to view. It seems the magazines with familiar titles have gradually grown worse without anyone noticing. We're beginningto feel that its not enough to cov er our children's eyes or to leave them home when we shop-- we don't wont to see it either. We ask t he residents of Vernal, as members of nur rommunit v. to help Dear Editor, In June of 1998 I contacted the manageratAlcotoaBk why the checking account numbers are printed on receipts that are paid for with checks. I was told that the new program just worked that way. I am wondering why in this day and age when everyone is warned to keep all numbers private and dont give them out to anyone why a department store would print them on every receipt. Three years and three months later they are still printing account numbers. How longdoea it take to change a computer program? I have contacted the manager every six months for the past three years and at one point in time was asked what the bigdeal was. Our family has had experience with stolen information and it is a bigdeal. Debbie Allen Letters to the editors must be signed bers eit on the fair board and receive a shirt or jacket and two passes for their efforts, little compensation number of hours that are put into putting on the fair. Since this was an event that we had not anticipated having, site received nothing for her efforts. She did let her own children help hand out the awards but si nee she was over the pageant she did not allow them to even participate any other way. One of the groups of judges was from Las Vegas and one was from Neola (only because she had a last minute cancellation and had to scramble to get new judges). The likelihood of the judges from Las Vegas knowing which girls were on which dance team was very unlikely. In this day and age when we have such a hard time getting volunteers to help out I think that the people that do volunteer and try their best should receive a pat on the back for their efforts and should not be criticized. Not only would I like to thank Suzie Dye but I would like to thank all the fair board members for all your hard work and for taking the time out of your busy schedules to put on an event that brings so much pleasure to the people of our County. My son, Cecil, may be alive today ifthat law had been in effect. It would make those idiots think two or three times before they start shooting at any officer. I know aoim dont agree with that law, as one fellow from Roosevelt said, it would make the penalty greater than the crime. I think he couldn't be more wrong! Anything we can do or any law we can get in effect to help all the state troopers and all police officers, we should get it done and help them whenever we can. Anyone who disagrees with me should ride along with an officer and see what they have to do. On a dark, lonely street when the officer makes a traffic atop on a car, get out of the police car and walk up to the car that he had stopped and see if you are looking into the barrel of an automatic weapon.
