Cook 1 Edwin Van Cook, age 50, ofAlton Wyoming, passed away on June 16. He waa bom on November 26, 1950 in Roosevelt Utah to James Christopher Cook and Grace Bird Robert Orin Hank Swain R. Cook. He married Marie Lois Hale on April 23 1976 in the Logan Temple. Ed lived in Bluebell, Utah for the first 26 years of hia life. And the last 24 yean of hia life were spent in Alton, Wyoming. He graduated fromAltamontHigh School and Altamont Seminary in 1969. Through part of high school and alter he graduated, Ed worked for the forest service in the Uinta Mountains and fought forest fores in Washington and Oregon. At a similar time, he worked fro Ule Enterprises rounding up cattle on the Indian reservation. He spent some time as an oiler for Bensons, and later as a welder for Warn. Shortly alter, he started working on Parker and Nobell oil rigs around Bluebell. In 1977, he followed the Nobel oil rig to Star Valley. He worked on a rig for Helmrich and Paine in Fairview, Parker Brothers up Grey's River, and BrinkerhofT near Lyman, Kemmerer an Rawlins. In 1980, he started working for Lollland and spent time on rigs up Tin Cup, Martin Creek, Blind Bull; Bozeman, Montana; Tri Cities and Moees Lake, Washington; and Church Buttes near Lyman. He was a floor hand, derrick hand, driller and tool pusher on these various rigs. When the drilling business slowed, he came home and worked for the sawmill and State Highway Department. When a job opened at Simplot S mo key Canyon Mine, he started there as a truck driver. He later operated a cat and grater and finished his work there aa a drillerb luster. He built hia own log home on the 55acre farm west ofAlton. He worked hardon his farm.SummerB were spent changing pipes, haying, branding cattle and raising pigs and winters -- Ed loved the mountains. He took annual trips with hia family to Bailey Lake, Corral Creek Lakes and Alice Lake. He loved to hunt and almost never passed a year without getting anelkandadeer.He hunted antelope and in 1982, he killed a bear. Last fall he got hia first moose. In 1998 he was diagnosed with I 1 d 6-- Edwin Van Cook - Swain Our beloved Father and Grandfather, Robert Orin Hank" Swain, 89, passed away peacefully June 29, 2001 at the home of his daughter in Neola. He was born May 15, 1912, in LaPoint, UT, to Abner and Permelia Hatch Swain. He married Donna May Lyman, October 11, 1934, in LaPoint. Their marriage waa solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple ofthe Church ofJesus Christ ofLatter-da- y Saints on January 29, 1954. Following 60 years of marriage, his sweetheart preceded him in death on May 26, 1994. He then married Lois Mitchell Duncan June 18, 1994. She died April 30, 1999. As a young man, Hank worked with his father and uncles in the family-owne- d brickyard in LaPoint The Vernal LDS Temple (formerly the Vernal Tabernacle) ia built with bricks from their kiln, and he took great joy having contributed to this edifice. He waa a man of incredible vision and wisdom, and became success Ail in numerous and varied business endeavors, always maintaining a strong work ethic and hia integrity. educaHaving only an eighth-grad-e tion, he started working as a sheep shearer aaayoungman, but over the yean, acquired properties including businesses in Roosevelt and Neola, and ranches in Utah and Idaho. He waa very civic minded and served aa Justice of the Peace in ' Roosevelt for a number of yean. He waa active in the Lions (Hub, hia political parly, the Moan Lake Irrigation Company, the Neola Commu- nity Rodeo and Park, and the Church ofJesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. He held many church leadership positions in his priesthood quorums, the Sunday School, and the Young Mens Organization. He was also an insightful and thought-provokin- g teacher. He and Donna filled a Sealing calling in the Provo Temple. A man of great humor, he entertained hia family and friends with stories to fit all occasions. He spent hia lifetime serving hia family and will be sorely missed. She was born February 28, 1925, in Orem, UT, to Gerald and Edith Lunceford Duke. She married Alvin Bethera, later divorced. She married Jack Lee Horner on July 3, 1974, in Las Vegas, NV. Dorothy had callings in the Sunday School and the Relief Society where she waa over homemaking. She eiynyed attending the Vernal Temple every week that she was able.
