Hall named president of USU Kermit L Hall, currently the Pro Affairs at North Carolina State University, was named aa the new President of Utah State University by the State Board of Regents. The vote of the Board was taken and the announcement was made Wednesday on the USU campus in Logan, Utah. Dr. HaU will replace Dr.GeorgeH. Emert, who is retiring on December 31, 2000, after serving 8W years as President President Hall will assume his duties as the 14th Presiresearch dent of Utah's land-grauniversity ofover 2 1,000 students in early January, 2000. The selection of the new President comes after an extensive national search by a 2 search committee consisting of Regents, Trustees, and USU faculty, staff, student and community representatives. Regent David Jordan chaired the search committee which held 13 public constituent group meetings to get input on the selection guidelines, carefully reviewed the fuiw of 72 candidates, interviewed s, and identia group of fied finalists to be forwarded to the Regents who made the final selection and appointment. In announcing the selection. Board of Regents Chair Charles E. Johnson said, "We are very pleased to have been able to attract a person of Dr. Halls stature, experience, and reputation. Krrmit has broad experience at two of the nation's finest land-graresearch univerailiee-Nort- h Carolina State University where he is the chief academic officer, and Ohio State University, where he served as Dean of the College of Humanities and Executive Dean ofthe Colleges of the Arts and Sciences- - We are confident he will provide outstanding leadership as President of Utah State University." Commissioner of Higher Education Cecelia H. Foxier, who facilitated the work of both the search committee and the Board of Regenta throughout the proceee, indicated that "all these who were contacted at Kermit's present and previous institutions commented on his exceptional skills of working with others to more programs and institutions forward. Each place was enhanced becauss of his vision and leadership. Tara Duncan, Josh Farnsworth, Daniel Farnsworth, and Amanda Johnson. Member who judged dairy cattb were: Steven WaU, James Baker, and Jared Timothy. and Vanderbilt University. An historian and legal scholar, Dr. Hall has written extensively on American legal history, including The Magic Mirror Law in American History, published by the Oxford University Press, and editor of The Oxford Companion to the Supreme Court of the United g States, an volume, and editor of the forthcoming Oxford Companion to American Law. He was one offiw persons nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by tbeU-S- . Senate to serve on The President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board. In his role as an historian, he has pent a good deal of time in Utah, working in the archives ofthe Church of Jesus Chriet of Latter Dpy Saints, the Utah Historical Society, the genealogical library of the LDS Church, and the Western History Collection at Utah Stats University. He also armed on the editorial board of The Western Historical Quarterly, which b housed on the Logan campus. Upon his appointment, Dr. Hall stated, "Utah Stats University has in 2 Dr. Susan Talley, Utah State University' new assistant, professor of Family and Human Development, b a mountain woman. After living for six years in the flattest lands of Ohm (the highest elevation in the state b 1,549), the has come to the conclusion that she needs the mountains, especially since she grew up in the mountains of Los Alamos, New Mexico (elevation 7,200 ft). With that introduction she said she loves the Uintah Basin. She recently received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at the University or Toledo, in Toledo, Ohio (elevation: sea level). She was hired Aug. 15, 2000 by thelintah Basin Branch Campus of Utah State University to teach courses in Family and Human Development. Some of the courses she is scheduled to teach are Human Development Infancy and Early Childhood, and Children in the Middb Year. "Oneofmygoab in coming here is to continue to provide some of the best education students can get in the country and still provide a personal touch." she said. After living here for two months, she has come to the conclusion that the people of Roosevelt and Vernal arrjust about the beat there is.
