Dan Miller, that households in at least 15 areas nationwide were miscounted. Such allegations are unfounded, Prewitt said, adding that he remained confident that the agencys quality control checks ferreted out any inaccurate information. Miller, chairman of the House Government Reform Committee' census panel, on Tuesday questioned the quality of work done in 15 offices when Census enumerators were trying to account for 40 million households that foiled to return a form. The Census Bureau finished that phase of tha count a week before it July 7 deadline, thanks primarily to the Cart that residents mailed back 80 million of the 120 million forma tent out, Prewitt said. That 66 percent response rate was 5 percentage points higher than the 1990 census, so official had fewer nonresponding households to track down than anticipated. The panel named these areas as questionable: Florence, Ala.; west Atlanta, Chicago's Car south and near north areas, Marion County.
