Uintah Community Orchestra performs for schools Uintah Community Orchestra members spent the morning of Wednesday, Mqy 10, at West Junior High where they performed three concerts for students from area schools. Their program especially for children included musical selections from Saint-SaeCarnival of the Animals which represent specific animals such as a swan, a lion, and mules, and the popular Syncopated Clock. Vernal actor and storyteller Chris Piner provided narration. The free concerts were presented for Lapoint Elementary, Todd Elementary, and West Jr. High, plus numerousclasses from East Elementary School and band and orchestra students from Roosevelt Middle School and Roosevelt Jr. High. Three more school concerts were presented in Vernal on Thursday, May I 1, plus a free Concert for Youth at Vernal Middle School that evening. The program was organized by Doug Christensen of Ver nal, founder of the group, and directed by Terry Terrell, musie teacher at West Jr. High. Donny Kkhen and Valeric Winn, took home top honors at the Duchesne' County School District Fine Arts Fair. Basin Arts Council, honors student volunteers The Basin Arts Council recognized an impressive number of student volunteers at its Second Annual Showcase of the arts in Duchesne County School District secondary schools. The honor concert and exhibit was held on Wednea- dsyMay 10, at Altamont High Valorie Winn, Donny Hicken, Mark Smith, Tamaran Dye. Lacey Morrill, Steve Russell, Crystal Scholes, Emi Sprouse, Eva Gillespie, Tambra The 33 students who were recognized were nominated for the distinction by members of Basin Arts Council based upon a substantial contribution of time and effort on Arts Council projects during the pas I year. Many of these students served as cast or crew members on the recent production of The Tale of Sir Brenowaite. Others are musicians with the jass big band, UintaJazz?, and or Uintah Community Band or Orchestra. Some helped with pubduties. licity and Some were involved in all of these activities and more, according to Basin Arts Council president Lyn Eckels. The total time represented was well over a thousand hours. The Council greatly appreciates their help and wishes to recognize the contribution these young people have made to their community."
