Show Longhorns Whip Ranoelv Altamont's Tate Sorensen named Deseret News' Prep of the Week points in the Longhorns 8770 victory. The Deseret News honored Sorensen for scorching the nets against St. Joseph, January 7 in Altamont. He hit all 17 of his field goal attempts. He finished with 36 star at Sorensen is a Altamont He also excels in baseball, football and track (placed second in four-spo- rt high jump for Region 13 last year). He carries a 3.4 GPA. Wasatch's Kris Hylton picked the final minutes to score seven of her 12 points on e three-pointe-r end 4 for 4 free throw shooting to guide the Wasps to e 40-3- 5 triumph. Jackie Morrill led Union with 12 and Bo Chapooae added six. FackrrU topped Wasatch with 14. Uintah in Vernal is superduper happy. They didn't get a new dinosaur for Main Street, but it was just as good. The Utes did a clean sweep of the Lady and Male Cougars from Union High School in games played at Uintah, Wednesday for the first time in a king tims. Tha Mala Utes went to the free throw line 40 times while Union had only 17 visits. Six" was tha Utes' lucky number as it was the final margin in a 50-4- 4 win over the Lady Cougars and s 62-5- 6 triumph over the Male Cougars. Uintah girls took a 9-- 6 first quarter lead in a low offensive showing and then outscored Union's girls, 16-1-4 in the second quarter for s 25-2- 0 halftime edge. The Lady Cals came right back with 13 to doae the Howgap to just one point at 34-3ever, Uintah took charge in the fourthquarterwith 16poinlsas compared to 11 by Union to win by six points. Jansen Nelson led Union with 15 points. Nelson was red hot with 3 Morrill Chapooee added nine counters. Mari Riser hod one Hillary Enloe was the top Lady Ute with 20 points and Liesl Cook pumped in 14. Uintah's boys leaped out to an 16-- 8 first quarter advantage and led 33-2- 4 at the half. Don Busenbark resigned as the head football coach at Union High School last week after holding the position for the past ten years. In 1993 Busen barks Union team won State Championship when the they clobbered Wasatch, 40-2- 2 at the University of Utah s Rice Stadium. Also during the championship year. Union whipped Pine View, which was ranked No. 1 at the time, end Cedar City in playoff garnet in Southern Utah. Union posted a 9-record in 1993. They beat Richfield, lost to Moffat County, which went on to take a state title end Wasatch during the regular season. Union then won eight games in a row and ended with the first Cougar , 3-- A 2 . state football crown since 1965 when they won the Class B championship.
