Keith and Wanda Bastian drove Do you believe in UFOs more to Carbon City, Utah, on July 17 where thev attended the funeral of than in the future of Social Security? Some Americans , including President Clinton, have publicly joked about a much quoted poll that misrepresents previous opinion surveys to cite that more Americans believe they will see a UFO before they receive a Social Security check. To satisfy suggestions that such polling data may have been improperly gathered, the Employee Benefit Research Institution (EBRD and Mathew Greenwald & Associates (MGA) conducted their own Social Security poll. The EBRIMGA survey asked Americans whether they had greater confidence that they would receive Social Security benefits or that alien life exists in outer space. The results showed: 71 percent of Americans said they had greater confidence in receiving Social Security benefits, compared with 26 percent who said that alien life exists in outer space. Among generation JCers, 63 percent had greater confidence in receiving Social Security benefits, compared with 33 percent who believed more in alien life. But even with the EBRIMGA polling results, the comparison between the belief in UFOs and the future of Social Security does raise some questions. Both opinions reflect that there are believers and nonbelievers. However, unlike the rhetorical quest ion: Are We age-ol- d Alone?, real questions about the future of Social Security can be answered. To borrow from the hit TV show and summer blockbuster movThe Truth Is Out ie the There." After grot, it will still be able to pay 75 percent of the benefits .- SEE AT BIG B EQUIPMENT Best Turning r 7 V owed- In Utah, according to the Social Richard and Roaaa Simmons have gone to the Sand Dunes with their 4 wheeler for a recreational holiday . up in Idaho.
