"It not only shows how this funding has made it possible to iibr'fish and wildlifand provide sportsmen and others access to it, but it also explains how the habitat fund can help preserve our quality of life in Ulan, Bunnell said. The report contains a section for each of the Divisions five regions. Each region's section provides a brief description of selected habitat projects funded in the region and a list of some of the projects authorized for funding in each of the region's counties. An additional section provides information on statewide habitat-fimde- d projects administered by the 16-pa- ge Division's Salt Lake office. The report also provides information about the fund itself, explaining why it was created, how Habitat the Council that recommends funding to the Division director functions, and how the fund has and will benefit Utahs fish, wildlife, sportsmen, and all who care about and enjoy wildlife. The Utah Legislature created the Wildlife Habitat Program in 1995, as a means of raising needed funds to protect, maintain, restore, develop and acquire habitat for Utahs fish and wildlife, and. provide public access to it. Wildlife Habitat Authorization funding is made possible by anglers, hunters and trappers, most of whom must purchase a $5 Authorization before Habitat purchasing a fishing or hunting license, or trapping permit. Habitat An eight-perso- n Council, consisting of four citizen representatives ana four Division program' chiefs, reviews project proposals and recommends to Division Acting Director John Kimball which should be funded.
