Purpose ofthe Utah Area Health Education Centers Program (Utah ' AHEC) is to improve health-car- e access in rural areas and d urban areas by providing education support throughout the career cycle to health-car-e providers who work in these areas. The project is recommended by Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt, who has earmarked $300,000 for initial funding in the budget he has presented to the 1995 Utah State Legislature. Additional funding will be sought from the 'federal government, which has increasingly supported AHEC development for 22 years.
