Thomson 'P&'M Glcnnis Ponton The town ofMyton is preparing for elections with two residents seeking the msyor position and six seeking positions on the council. For the Peoples Party, the candidate for mayor is Larry Dye and candidates for council are Harold Crapo, Joan Potter and Jade Calvert. The Citizens Party nominated Wilford Conetah for mayor and incumbent Glen Thomson, Glennis Ponton and Loma Mead for council. Photos and articles were used by those 'candidates submitting information. Incumbent Dr. Glenn Thomson was nominated by the Citizens of Myton to run for council. Party ' The Myton City Council needs to strive for unity and honesty in order to better serve the dty," he said. Secrecy and distrust needs to be replaced with open and honest debate concerning the needs ofMyton. Thomson said the dty must continue to upgrade ita system by attempting to move water shares from the pumping station on the Duchesne River to starvation dam, replacement of water meters and installation of back pressure valves and renovation ofthe water treatment plant He also said the council should work with the Ute Indian Tribe to get CUP promises fulfilled. "Law and order is another area that must be a major concern of the dty council, he said. "The council needs to obtain a Justice of the Peace and needs to support that person in the enforcement of dty ordinances. Thomson is also concerned about safety and suggeats a aide walk along main street He feels recreation and activities for youth is the fourth area that the council should work on. Thomson was elected to the council in 1985, became a member of the Roosevelt-Myto- n housing authority in 1989 and has served on the Duchesne County Food Pantry since 1984. Conetah was nominated by the Citisena Party ofMyton. Loma L. Mead, a resident of Myton for three years, ia a candi- - Board. "Hes got some good ideas. But we cant get anyone to listen. Why isnt someone doing something about this? While most of us would not be able to prove Griswold right or wrong, many experts who would know are not willing to listen to his ideas. Ive run across people in labs feat are fascinated wife this, he said. "But professors up in the universities dont even want to hear about it The lack of interest from people at Brigham Young University, Utah State University and University of Utah may have something to do wife Griswolds image. "I dont have a college degree so they give me no credibility, he said. "If my ideas are right, they will have to totally change the concepts they learned in college. Phil DiBartola, the countys economic development director, believes Griswold should be listened to but he can understand fee difficulty of gaining fee ears of experts. "Hes questioning the fundamental laws of physics, said DiBartola. "Hes a deep thinker. He thinks differently than a lot of people. Griswold is not your typical man on the street wife his pipe in hand, and dirt on his clothes from working at fee Parrish Radiator shop in Roosevelt. But his mind is of a scientific background. Hes spent many hours in the library and took specific classes for what he needed. "I didnt want to be prejudiced by what fee teachers tell you, he Duchesne City residents will take part in the November 7 elec- tion wife one person running unopposed for msyor and five people seeking positions on the council. Rojean Addley is seeking a third term as Duchesne mayor while the candidates for council are Mel Tanner, Gerald Wilker-soErnest Sards, Kim Hamlin and Helen Peterson. Photos and information was used upon submission from candidates. Glennis Ponton, candidate for Myton City Council for a term, has been a resident of Duchesne County for seven years and a resident of Myton City for six years. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she attended high school in San Antonio, Texas and business college in Riverside, California. ar Ponton is married with seven children and nine grandchildren. She is the manager of Ghost Town General Store in Myton. "I am concerned about the problems which have been steadily increasing in the last few years in the Uintah Basin and in Myton City, Ponton said. M promise to do my best to try to resolve these problems, especially in Myton and make our historic town a better and more beautiful place to live and raise our children. "I am tired of seeing our children and other families having to leave the community because of lack of opportunities in this area. I think we all need to work together to bring unity back to the Basin. an era, said Tom Nordstrom of the Duchesne County Economic Duchesne candidates prepare for Tuesday ancing out the "services required to the funds available for such service. n, jfEfa&cs?- - said. "I wanted fee freedom to grow in. The scientist has used feat freedom all his life, guided by an obsession with his hypothesis. Now with the responsibilities of a family end his job, Griswold is almost tired of trying to convince people his ideas are true. "I dont care about making a million dollars, he said. "Id like to get credit and get paid for my time, but mostly Id like to teach so that other researchers can go out and experiment Griswolds theories may need more work once proven correct, but his initial experiments could open doors to fee scientific world. I dont know if Tm totally correct, but its more than they know, he said. However you choose to take Griswolds scientific ideologies, he says it would be beneficial for the world to at least take notice and give him a chance. "All I ask is they apply scientific experiments, he said. "This can no longer be ignored.
