Utahs ranking among the fifty states and this District of Columbia climbed from 18th high- est in FY 1983, to 7th highest in 1987. The tax watchdog taxes. The study showed that Utah property taxes ranked 34th per capita, 26th per household, and 24th per $1,000 of personal income. State sale taxes in Utah ranked 19th per capita, 14th per household, and 12th when compared to personal income. Utah individual income taxes ranked 18th per capita, 12th per household and 10th per $1,000 of personal income. The calculations were made by the Utah Taxpayers Association using U. S. Department of Commerce data. Tax collections were divided by population, number of households, and personal income, regardless of whether the tax collecLona were received from individuals or businesses. Wyoming and Alaska ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively, in state and local taxes as a percent of income, although nearly all of the collections were received from taxes on natural resources, not the residents in the state.
