Bingham, Roosevelt was ranked third in Utah with 36 head, and Gary Jessen, Alto-naranked eighth with 25 head registered with the association, according to Richard L. Spader, executive vice president Angus breeders across the nation in 1988 registered a total of 13,520 head of cattle, compared to 141,239 head recorded in 1987. The American Angus Association, headquartered in St Joseph, Mo., was founded in 1883. Jeff left Kathy and the children here for a week where she visited with her folks, Bob and Cleo Peatross, George and Etyth Marett, Rodger and Donna Marett, and the Lewis Farnsworths and other friends and families. Jeff returned back and they left again Saturday morning. They stopped and visited with his sister, Julie and Max Forbush, in Farmington. Maria Pops just returned home after spending three weeks visiting in Olympia and Kingston, Wash., whers she spent time with her two daughters. Fay Wirth and Fern Bettridge and their families. She flew back to Salt Lake Saturday, and her grandson, Fred Wirth, brought her home and spent Saturday night and Sunday with his grandmother, getting her wood chopped for her. They had a family dinner at the Evans home after the meeting. Eugene Abplanalp waa rushed to the Duchesne County Hospital friday, Oct 7,' with what he thought waa heart troubles. Then they found ha needed gall bladder surgery. Sunday he was taken by ambulance to the Utah Valley Hospital, Provo, where they found ho had pneumonia. They ware unable to operate until Wednesday, where the gall bladder surgery was performed. He ia still in I n 101 N. 200 E. Roosevelt, Utah 4. The fall hunting seasons are about to begin and if you are considering Ouray National Wildlife Refuge as a place to hunt, you should be aware of refuge regulations and current conditions. The waterfowl season has been shortened, and bag limits reduced. Also, there are restrictions on the harvest of mallards, pintails and redheads, with a closure on canvaabacka Hunters should study up on the identifying characteristics before going out in the field. Concentrate on relative sizes and silhouettes of the different duclu in flight. Remember the wing speculum colors (a Mallards ia dark him and white bars above and below.) The drought conditions in the prairie states and provinces has severely reduced mating habitat The refuges Leota marsh unit will be open to waterfowl a hunting as in the past Water do art low, but the upper ponds have water in them and should provide fair to good hunting early in the season. The Leota unit ia the only area of the refuge open to waterfowl hunting. Interior dikes will be closed to vehicle traffic, therefore hunters will have to park along the west access road and walk in to hunt The parking requirement reduces disturbance to other hunters. The refuge will have leaflets and hunting maps at the information station along the entrance road. The refuges Leota, Johnson and north Wyasket unite will be open to rifle and muzzle loader deer hunting during the state seasons. Deer numbers are up and ' should provide fair hunting for bucks. Pheasant numbers continue to increase and surveys indicated a 30 increase over 1987. Overall, the pheasant hunting will be fair. Hunters with dogs will have the best luck. Pheasant hunting ia allowed on the Leota, north Wyasket and Johnaon unite. All state hunting regulations apply to refuge lands. Sportsmen should remember that only portion! of the refuge are open to hunting and that the Sheppard unit is closed to hunting at all times.
