Show UBIC '87 6 Grand Marshall . Jay C. Gates and his wife Sheryl have four children; Kenneth G Gates, Terri Lyn Monks, Ronald J. Gates, and Richard D. Gates. All are married with the exception of Richard, who will be attending college this fall. Jay has been the local Chevrolet and Buick dealer for the past 22 years, and has always been active in the community in many ways. He was on the Roosevelt City Council for four years. He also served five years on the Board of Adjustments for Roosevelt City. He was finance chairman for the UBIC and in 1985 received the Total Citizen Award from the Chamber of Commerce. Jay has been an avid supporter of sports programs, both e and in the schools for many years. He helped organize the Union High School Booster Club and served as President of that group. He has been President of the Little League Baseball program and supported this program not only financially, but also as a coach and umpire. He served this year as the director of the Bronco All Star Tournament. He has also served as coach in city-wid- Basketball and helped many years in little league football. The Roosevelt Regional Park was built while Jay was on the city council and it was partially due to his efforts that the park became a reality at its current location. SW 1 Gates Jay was one of the initial property donators for the Roosevelt Golf Course and not only donated property, but helped in other ways also. Jay spearheaded the raising of funds for the loudspeaking system at Union High School and also contributed to this cause. The first time that Union High School awarded the Outstanding Service Award, Jay was the recipient. Jay has been a KNEUFrontier Grill Volunteer of the week. Jay is involved in' the Borderline Amateur Radio Club and has served as vice president and president of that group. In. his younger days, Jay was active in trapshooting and was the State Champion on three different occasions. ' Jay has been elected to the Chevrolet Dealer Council four different times during his two years . as a Chevrolet dealer and served a total of eight years on this council. To serve on the council a dealer must be elected by the other Chevrolet dealers in the Zone. Jay was appointed to the Duchesne Hospital Board in February, but decided in May that it would be in the best interest of the hospital if he resigned, which he did. Jay has seven beautiful grandchildren and involvement with his family is his prime concern. He is also actively involved in his church. $ |
