Show I I 74th Year Wednesday, June 3, 1987 No. 22 Roosevelt, Utah 20 Pages 50 Cents Mixed feelings oh Roosevelt dispatch The worst part about having a weekly paper is the news may be a bit old. And this weeks news about the fate of Roosevelt City Police Dispatch will be at least one day old. City Coundlmen will have most likely decided the fate of their dispatch Tuesday night in their weekly meeting. They will have decided to either stay with their own dispatch or join in with Consolidated Dispatch in Vernal. Consolidated dispatches for Vernal City, Uintah and Duchesne County Sheriff Departments, and Utah Highway Patrol Council members were hoping Duchesne County Commissioners would decide' to leave Central and have RPD dispatch for them. A meeting was called by Duchesne County Sheriff Clair Poulson last Thursday that had county EMT, ambulance and sheriff deputies all praising work of Central Dispatch. Two Duchesne County Com- d missioners, Larry Ross and Gilbert, both stated they would leave Central Dispatch in Vernal We thought it was important for Roosevelt to be heard (on their proposal)," Commissioner Larry Ross told the audience of 70 people Thursday. "We haven't had any interest to move Central Dispatch. We need to leave it where it is. And, with a $10,000 projected revenue shortfall Roosevelt council will have to decide how to make up the difference. Central Dispatch ' proposed to let Roosevelt City into their dispatch for $27,000 or 10 percent of their 19868 $270,000 operating budget Presently, Roosevelt is paying over $80,000 for their own dispatch. If Roosevelt decides to enter into Central five dispatchers would be laid off. A fulltime clerical person would be hired for an estimated $20,000 cost to the city. Councilman Dennis Jenkins said Friday he thinks Central is the only way the city can make up the revenue shortfall He said it would be hard to lose loyal dispatchers but hard tidies forces him to vote for Central Dispatch. Councilman Bill Hall said Friday he would not vote for the change. He said there is enough in the budget to keep the dispatch in Roosevelt. He said he does not like the service of Central Dispatch. Councilman Tim Cox said he was uncertain Friday how he would vote. He said the proposal was attractive financially but he is uncertain if that cost will stay smalL He said Central Dispatch Governing Board would have to "lock' into a contract" with Roosevelt on the small 10 percent ' charge that they are assessed this year.
