Second children tend to be competitive end tattletale. Last children are the spoiled, pampered babies" of the family. So goes some of the conventional wisdom about birth order.-new book by two Brigham Young University family scientists based on almost a decade of clinical observation only partially confirms these bare bones, sometimes unfair stereotypes, and the authors go far beyond them to create a more fleshed out and balanced picture. In Birth Order Roles and Sibling Patterns in Individual and Family Therapy, Margaret H. Hoopes and James M. Harper exhaustively explain the first four children's birth order roles and the dynamics behind them, throwing a new, more compassionate, light on sibling patterns. The book is published by Aspen Publishing, Inc., in Rockville, Md. They also discuss how the birth order of a husband and wife can affect their relationship, and how a therapists birth order and a clients can affect that relationship. And they identify parenting issues for nuclear families, step families and single-parefamilies. The book is directed at therapists to help them identify and work with behavior patterns in their clients, but almost anyone would find the information nt useful Once people begin to hear about these patterns, said Hoopes, their newfound understanding is often a source of comfort and healing. I find clients frequently having the aha experience when they start getting this information, she said in an interview. They might say, I finally understand my Weather Mother Nature is really playing an April Fool's joke on us. She's going to give us some nice weather! A ridge of high pressure began building yesterday, and will continue through Thrusday with sunny skies and temperatures increasing daily. In fact temperatures may climb into the low' 60's before the end of the week. Lows at night should be in the mid 20's. There may be an increase of clouds and a possibility of scattered afternoon thunder showers Friday or Saturday. It is Conference weekend after all, so we can expect rain. The Uintah Basin area has received about 89 to 90 of it's normal moisture for the year. So unless April is a little wetter than usual, this could be a dryer year than last year. wants people to be current implicit rules and values that underlie the family system, the third child's for relationships in the family, starting with the marital relationship, and the fourths for harmony and peace in the family and for family goals. Hoopes and Harper are still doing research on further sibling positions, but they generally believe the patterns being to repeat, with the fifth child being assigned similar responsibilities to the first except as modified by a far more complex family system. Understanding these implied jobs, and the many more complex patterns the authors have identified, can help therapists and Some sad statistics for area smokers loan, or restructuring by selling assets. Since FmHA Farm loan pay- ments are due on January 1, borrowers delinquent on December 81 wiU, in all likelihood, have been delinquent for a year as of that date. The letter asks the borrower to contact the FmHA county office within 80 days to make an appointment to discuss the account. It also requests the borrower to choose one or more servicing options listed on an accompanying form and return the form within 80 days. Choices available to the borrower are rescheduling or reamortizing all or part of the loan, consolidation, deferral, refinancing at the (lower) limited resource interest rate, subordination of FmHA's lien position to another lender to allow a new well-bein- clients deal on an explicit level with issues that are normally implicit and thus difficult to identify, let alone resolve. Now I can do something about repairing our relationship." The heart of the book is its description of the job or role' families typically assign, however unconsciously, to each sibling position as well as each position's perceptual orientation and what each draws upon for identity and sense of For example, first children nor mally are given the job of being productive and responsible for the familys explicit rules and values. Their perceptual orientstion-th- eir attempt to make sense of the world-focu- ses on the rational, and they tend to use analytical thought to create meaning from what they see. They thus become experts at noticing details and often focus on the literal meaning of words. The second child's job is to be responsible for compliance with the FmHA county office as soon as possible upon receipt of the letter to make an appointment to discuss the account leration nor foreclosure letters. They are, in fact intended to avoid either acceleration or foreclosure through application of one or more of the servicing options. casual link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer. The second child's job is to make the implicit explicit, so they have to have things in line. Sometimes that looks like competitive behavior and has been labeled as such because second children are always reporting on their siblings' misbehavior. If parents know this is part of that childs assignment, it can change their perspective." Parents can then respond to a second child not by telling them to stop competing with their brother or sister but by reassuring them that violations of family rules will be remedied. If they do the former, Hoopes said, they have implicitly assigned a job, then told the child not to do it The family is an extremely complex system, Hoopes cautioned, so the patterns she and Harper described should never be imposed on someone but should instead be used to add understanding only if as well as the idea that the family environment changes every time a child is born into it. Officials disclosed that there have been an extremely high number id radiation related mutations in Duchesne County. Studies show a mysterious deficiency in the number of residents in the county when compared to the birthrate and degree of immigration in the area; however, there seems to be an abundance cl cows. Several side effects of mutations have been noticed: many residents have become abnormally hirsute and exhibit a tendance to chew on gran stalks. There have even been (unconfirmed) reports of County residents mooing to the moon. Officials said that the first symptoms c f the mutations are a lowering of intelligence and a loss of reading comprehension.
