Show I Thursday. May 27, 1982 Uintah Basin Standard 23 Guzzler completion will aid wildlife Duchesne Forest Service is just completing another water guzzler making a total of nine, guzzlers for their district. The guzzlers are a way of storing water for native animals and birds, animal life to certain plus inviting remote areas where there is no water. This newly constructed guzzler does not have water within one and a half miles. There is one in the GQsonite area that the nearest water ia six miles away. Rod Rogers, Range Biologist for the Duchesne Office, explained that so far there is very little use of the water in the Gilsonite area, but that it was expected to take some time for the animals to migrate in that area. The other guzzlers are being used by small birds and animals and larger game animals in the particular areas.. The Office The completed the water and drains it into the tank. Another type of guzzler ia that of tank where a series of the walk-isteps are constructed in the tank allowing' the animals access to the water. Rocks and boards with wire are placed in the tanks or water troughs to allow small game and birds a chance to water and escape. It was interesting that there is a bit of water collected from the Suitein the early morning hours as it condenses on the tin collector metal and runs into the tank, collecting water without it having to rain. n with guzzlers, buried tanks, have a 2, storage capacity. They are six feet high and 16 feet long. The system is equipped with a float valve in a water trough which allows very little evaporation of the water. There is a area that collects large n 250-gallo- Flaming Gorge ready for Memorial Day guests Facilities at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area will be open for the Memorial Day weekend, with few exceptions, reports Bob Meinrod, area ranger.
