Show Thursday, January 21 1982 Uintah Basin Standard in now Cougars ion; Wasps next Lady Cats to claw 2--0 Lut Friday night. Union Cougar fans who also (hired a love with the BYU Cougars, had a hard decision to make which game should they wateh? And it turned out to be a very hard decision. Both teams turned on the run and gun approach and because of some consistent scoring the Cougar teams came out on top. Brad's Cougars did start off running and were hot and between these two blessings" the Morgan Trojans were frustrated to the point they almost couldn't buy a basket. They were called for fouling, traveling, and took shots that didn't touch the basket. To say the least, the Cougars looked good in their second Region win and now are tied with Lehi for first place. Everything seemed to fit," said Coach Brad Monks. Things we have worked on all year long eame together plus we had the timing." One of the reasons the Cougars won, was the fact they hit 22 of 55 throws from the field. They were down with had seven. We are concentrating a little more but I think it was the confidence of last weeks game that helped us out so much," said Brad. We know now that we have the ability to play, come back and win. Union's next opponent will be Wasatch at Heber this Friday. Wasatch beat Morgan by one point in an overtime two weeks ago and has lost to Lehi so they are 1 in Reeion. 1-- their free throws at 52 percent, but it was enough to keep them in the game. The Cougars were ahead 19 to 12 at the end of the first quarter. Morgan only hit two for 18 shots from the fold in the first. In the second quarter the Morgan Cougars Morgan hit only four for 17 from the field in the second quarter. The half ended up at 36-2- 2 for the Cougars. The talk was high during the half-tim-e show by the Cougarettes, about how the Cougars usually are a very cold third quarter team and everybody had hopes the Cougars would turn around the past and have a good third quarter. Although the Cougars didn't do as well in the third as the first two it wasn't bad. The Trojans Juarters, better and outscored the The fourth quarter was Cougars 18-1about the same for Morgan, but it wasnt enough to upset the Cougars, as they won 63-5Brad said that one of the reasons Morgan was more effective in the last half was they changed their defense from a zone to I don't think they thought they could keep up with us on the run and they played the tone to begin with," said Monks. "They will definitely play us full n when we go up court, there, said Monks. He went on to say that although the Morgan players didn't score well in the first half, they didn't lose their composure and were able to come back one point at a time. Double figure players for Union were Cory Dye, 15; Dean Townsend, 1 and Donnie Sammarupa, 12. Greg Bellon led the team with rebounds (12) with Dean Townsend gaining 10. Snow 17-1- out-scor- at Morgan They are going to be up for this ball game,, plus it will be on their home court, so we are going to have to play some good ball, said Monks. He said they had two kids 63" and another lea per at 61. We are going to have to get the ball down the court and score, because we will have a hard time in dominating the boards," said Monks. The game will start Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Heber. Unions JV had a dose game with the Morgan basketball team over the in weekend as they won, 66-6- 4 overtime. Ricky Nielsen had 23 of those points with 15 rebounds that sparked the team on in the wind. Doug Allen had 12 points and nine rebounds. It excites me to see their intensity and desire to play." said Monks. They can be down and then claw back. They dont know the word lose, and they are always playing as hard as they can. Brad explained they play as many layers on the JV squad as they can about the same amount of time to give them the needed experience and confidence. This way they can see their ability to play improve and they perform better," said Monks. It was what we call a long road home for the varsity, said Coach Je Alexander of Union's girls' basketball team. The JV squad performed a little better as they came out on top id Grantaville Cecilia Callior scored 18 points and Beverly Mortensen had 12 for the JV squad. This game was just about as lopsided to the JV squad as the Varsity game was to Grantaville said Alexander. The varsity lost the game 3060. He pointed out that when you only hit three percent from the fold you are not going to win very many 51-1- 8. ball 20-fo- Last week at Ahamont High School was a busy week. You have hurts, needs, longings and no one seems to know or care.' How could they? People may be all around you, but they can't look inside to see what you really are, how you feel, or why you do what you do. Throughout history other men and women have felt that way. They have been reaching out for something or someone to understand, to help them face the basic issues of life. And many have discovered that while they were searching. Someone was reaching out to them. No one understands? That's not really true. The happy truth is "No one understands like Jesus!" For your sake, He faced life and death and overcame, and He's alive to hear . nd help you now. If you would like to know more about this Iesus who understands.
