The answer is yes - if. If we are ready. A good place to start is on the problem of drinking by persons not of legal age. Solving that problem is the responsibility not only of operators of taverns and other retail outlels, but also of parents. They are in the best position to discuss this problem with their own youngsters - every day, in their own homes. A second step is for each of us to and heed the basic advice, "If you drive, don't drink." There is plenty of evidence that the two simply do not mix. A third step, suggested by a new campaign of the United States Brewers Association, is to the laws involving sales of alcohol to minors not be enforced! We take this as a public acknowledgement of the value of the laws, and the desirability of keeping alcoholic beverages out of the hands of young people. Start by asking yourself, especially if you've just come of legal age, "Will I drink?" Making an initial, informed decision about drinking is an individual responsibility. For a wide variety of reasons, many persons decide that alcohol beverages are not for them. That decision should be respected by each of us, as it is by the brewing industry.
