Show Each day parents will find the full day kindergarten students in Mrs. Spillmans class experiencing literacy. They rotate through leamiiig centers in groups of five and become involved by using hands-o- n activities. The students are able to read their classmate names, write them and count the letters in their friends name. The students spend time on comprehensive strategies, individualized reading groups, journal writing and being immersed in books. Children enjoy reading in the comfort of the book nook. Independent reading is a quiet choice our kindergarteners really enjoyThe first grade at Creekview Elementary recently participated in its annual Thanksgiving Day activities. The students learned about the pilgrims, die Mayflower and the Native Americans. They learned about how the people lived, ate and dressed. The students learned about these through a variety of lessons. The students also read books, made necklaces and even made their own corn meal with the use of a mano and matatee. The students enjoyed this learning activity. v. f. ; ' A-- ' v The second grade students were excited to share their recount stones with the sixth grade students. Both grades have been working on this genre in writers workshop and the sixth graders were impressed by what the younger students had written. The sixth grade students will be sharing their pieces'of work with the second grade students soon. ; S --". . r 'i The fifth grade students at Creekview are currently involved in die Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. Officer Allred from the Price Police Department teaches the students life skills that help them to resist drugs, alcohol and violence. Each week, Allred comes prepared with lesson plans, visual g, aids and rewards. He involves the students in modand discussions. also He the students peer teadies eling group pressure resistance techniques, narcotic recognition and self management skills. These types of instructional strategies provide students with the opportunities to interact with a positive role model. ; The DARE program provides an important foundation to the fifth grade students. , A'v a1. r tv role-playin- sew ''V' . & u f jitf . v Creekview students believe being a good student includes contributing to the community. During the month of November, the student council sponsored a food drive for the local food bank. The school collected 1,382 items of food weighing over 1,500 pounds. Mrs. Erramouspes class collected the most averaging five and a half cans of food per child in the class. Tins was a new project this year and the student council is proud of the generosity of the students. In December, the students will be collecting used or new gloves, mittens, hats and socks for children in need. There will be a collection box at the school After Christmas, the school will begin on making quilts for . Idds and collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, . f 'i- , S&fc r- Students and their families from Ms. Whears, Mrs. TWeddeDs and Mrs. Robinettes classes enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast on Nov.20. The students worked hard tocreateatramoiial Thanks- giving dinner. The students made table decorations, table doths and wall The students and teachers then prepared the feast for their families and local dignitaries.
