of its large holdings ianthar in thai district that in all the steps taken noth ingham been done to in any way in jure jur the present sugar companies but at tile the same time that they were prepared the brigham city commercial club and representatives of the local papers shortly after tile the meeting g began mr leroy eccles of ogden general manager of the amalgamated sugar company and mr joseph desired mr air george M cannon of the salt lake security trust company who was present to make an explanation mr air cannon then explained the steps that had bad been taken thus tar far toward the building of 0 the factory that the salt lake security trust corn core pany had received a petition from tile the far farmers giers and being heavily interested in the district and the principal owner ot of the hammond ammond II canal had taken the necessary steps to insure a factory during the year 1916 that to build two factories in the district would be simply to ri ruinous tinous competition and that inasmuch as mr air cutler had now expressed a willingness to erect a factory in the year 1916 it if the salt lake security trust company would turn over to the utah idaho sugar company the contracts it had obtained that the salt lake security trust company was willing to do so and thus allow the utah idaho sugar company to build the factory mr cutler then pledged the building of the factory lii in 1916 in consideration of contracts covering 2500 acres anti and sufficient additional contracts to raise dalae the tow total sugar beet beek acrema aar e to aerel wlllie ube for the the maintenance of the factory mr air cutter cutler added that the average yield on the east side bide of the bear river was greater in sugar beets than on the west aide of the valley and that tho the land was waa highly adaptable to the raising of wagar bet beets mr cutler also gave as Gr ern ranco urance that there was sufficient um clent water if properly used to irrigate every acre available on the east side of the sear dear river valley lie he said the utah idaho sugar company had recently made a contract with the utah power 4 light company by which it Is assured a of second feet of water tile the hammond ammond II canal at tile the close or of the hie meeting attorney D C call of oe brigham city who was active in efforts to secure tile the factory moved that a vote of 0 thanks be ext assurance given in connection with the proposed building of the factory president olean N stohl on behalf of the people of rox hox elder county expressed the pleasure lie he felt at the happy termination of the agitation that had taken place and said that the factory would unquestionably be ot of great value in helping to develop the east side sida of the lear bear river niver valley and to make a district already admirably adapted for homes bomes of still greater benefit mr george austin in a rousing tak congratulated the farmers on the prospects and urged them to get right in and finish their fall plowing and have everything in apple pie order for the spring planting ile he a assured s the farmers that the company had ample beet seed and that in this respect they were in tar far better condition than many of the sugar factories in tho united states bashop wheatley offered a complaint on behalf of the farmers beets have gone into tile the plies at the reduction of the loading price of 25 cents per ton to 20 cents per ton he told the officials that the farmers feel fee that they are entitled to the full twenty five cents arid and gave ills his reasons later in the meeting mr air austin announced that the full price of 25 cents would be paid for loading which was greeted with a a storm ot of applause an expression was asked at 0 those who have already signed the salt lake lahe security trust beet contract it they were willing to have the contracts assigned to the utah idaho sugar company and a rising vote showed that there was no opposition whatever it was later agreed by vote ot of those present that in as much as it had been definitely defina tely decided that the utah idaho sugar company will erect the factory the farmers would prefer to sign up on their regular contracts which means that all who have halve signed the salt lake security trust contracts will be visited by representatives of the utah idaho sugar company and given an opportunity to sign the other contract mr air cannon urged the people of the east side generally to get out and work just as liard hard to get the acreage under tile the new arrangement as they had exhibited a willingness to do under the plan ills his company proposed lie ile stated that a sugar factory was the end desired not who should build it and so far as he and his company were vere concerned they would get behind the butali idaho sugar company andrack and back it up in this matter the question of where the factory fac i tory will be located was mentioned but each speaker declared that no site had as yet been decided upon neither would it do any good for communities muni ties to get out petitions and offer inducements that matter will have to be left entirely with the sugar company for there are certain things which have to be taken into consideration in selecting a site for a factory the value of which can only be determined by the sugar company itself the farmers were urged to raise the beets and no matter where tile factory Is located it will be a blessing to the entire cast side the officials of the amalgamated sugar company took no part in the discussion and hence their attitude was not learned with respect to the stated intention of the utah idaho sugar co to canvass for be beefs cis from willard wallard Wll lard perry brigham and part of calls fort for which Is now territory of the 6 daden gd en company C the working agreement of the two concerns will doubtless take care of that and the matter will be so adjusted that no f friction will result the question was asked the salt lake security trust company as to terms and price at which they intend to sell water rights under the ham moud canal as many tanners farmers expressed a desire to have this information in reply we are informed that the price pr ce until the airl 1 of december of year will be the same heretofore charged namely where the water is sold on annual installments and per aero acre where the purchaser pays all cash after january 1 1916 the price of 0 wat watertight water enright right will be 65 per aero acre it if sold on oil the annual in installment tall plan and 60 per acre tor for cash we feel that the people of brigham city and of the east side of the dear bear river valley are to bo be congratulated uon the sugar factory insured at the meeting at Harle harleyville the box elder news takes to itself credit for having always boosted for such a factory and having by every means in its power encouraged the farmers and business men to take the necessary steps to insure same but while we desire to give all full credit for that which las been done we feel that justice de fiands that we attribute tile the initial movement recently inaugurated to mr george M cannon cashier of the salt lake security trust company mr cannon in company with other officials of the company visited brigham city on business connected with the hammond ammond II canal in september and was approached at that time by some of the farmers and asked to take the matter up wit 11 the board of directors of 0 the salt lake security fe trust company and organize a company to build such a factory from the first mr air cannon encouraged all who took this attitude by saying that ills his company would unquestionably be willing tn undertake this task if it could be shown to be the wish of the people of box elder county we feel that the directors of the salt lake security trust company are also to congratulated for the hearty manner in which they encouraged continuation of the farmers efforts at the directors meeting in november the board of directors gave mr cannon full authority to take the necessary steps to insure a sugar factory mr cannon assured the commercial club and the citizens generally he met at the commercial club on thanksgiving evening that his company was prepared to see that a factory Is built provided the farmers at once sign up contracts for acres of beets it was this unfaltering faltering attitude anthe part of the 4 salt lake security trust company com pany which determined tle the idalio idaho su gar company to agree to build the factory during the year 1916 we deelta feel to congratulate all who have aalten part and are satisfied that the factory will prove the boon to box elder county which we have always claimed |
