Blaine and Mari ah Wheeler right to edit letters for length, clarity and to eliminate libelous or tasteless material. Dear Editor What a beautiful Thanksgiving gift! I received my San Juan Record and read of the new name chosen for the golf course. How appropriate for so many, especially my family and friends. We spent childhood summers down under the hill in our own little hide- out. The San Juan Record HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER FOR SAN JUAN COUNTY, UTAH SINCE 1915 AN AWARD WINNING NEWSPAPER Much of the area where the golf course is located was owned by my dear grandfather and grandmother, Wilson and Laura Allred. Cows grazed down the hill and drank the cool water in the creek. Each evening I would ride my horse down, listening for the cow bell around the neck of one of the old cows, and herd them back to grandpas barn. So many of our family and friends eiyoyed this beautiful, peaceful playground where we each had our own secret hideout. May I express to you the excitement felt each week as I receive my Record in the mail. I read and feel the love of our beautiful little Blue Mountain home. Thanks to all who make their contributions by keeping so many of us close to our little hometown. A lot of people went to the polls and said enough. Hope- fully. those still standing got the message! Monticello stands at a crossroads. With the new golf course, the addition to the temple, the new road over the mountain to Canyonlands, the new chamber of commerce being organized, the desire of people to recreate in a safe secure place, Monticello's opportunity to THRIVE has never been greater. Like Harold Young, and every other subdivider developer, I am extremely unhappy with a city that regularly fails to obey its own zoning ordinances. I could write a book on the frustrations I have experienced being a victim of selective enforcement of zoning subdivision laws. After giving Monticello 115 acres of land for the new golf course, not a single city official at any level has once called, written, or spoken to me verbally concerning the PUD ordinance (Planned Unit Development) promised last July. However it is time to move on. With a new mayor and two new councilmen, I hope we will see some change in direction. Tough decisions are going to have to be made. We may not always agree with our city councilmen, but we did elect them to run our city. I hope this time around we will let them do the job they were elected to do without questioning every decision and filing a lawsuit when they do something some people don't agree with. Lets let them know we appreciate their willingness to take the HEAT when so few of the rest of us seem to be willing to do so. Lets pitch in and volunteer to help, instead of sitting on the sidelines finding fault. Working together, we can stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before and make our town one of the best in America.
