Delta - A Sanpete officials say show us the money After nine months of experience with the Smart Sites program, Sanpete County oflicials are asking, as a little old lady used to ask in Wendys commercials, Wheres the beef?" Local economic development officials say that it is beginning to appear that Smart Sites are a gubernatorial public relations initiative, not a tangible program to bring jobs to rural Utah. They say that the two Sanpete sites have not received a drop of state funding, and the state appears to have reneged on promises that it would find jobs to be based at the sites. Smart Sites are a part of Leavitt's Silicon Valley Initiative, a program to find computer companies willing to relocate jobs to Utah. A key cog are rural smart sites, specifically targeted to bring high technology jobs to rural areas.
