Show Editor I just returned home from my first vacation to Moab and sat down to read The Zephyr. Naturally, I started with "Take it or Leave it" and was quickly reminded of the true definition of community journalism: just another name for small-tow- n newspapers so dominated by the need to survive that advertising dwarfs anything remotely related to the ethics of journalism. Your column left me with the taste of Sicily, Alaska. The only thing I didn't see in there was anything about a moose taking leisurely strolls down Main Street. Maybe you just with your buddy. didn't see the moose while you were Moab has a lot going for it. I bet I could spend a month there without getting bored or repeating an activity. It is a recreationalist' s not recreationist's paradise. 1 nominate Ruth Ann to play the part of Natalie Dickerson. You are Chris Stevens. I 20 some that years ago Nik "Maurice Minnifield" Hougan came to Moab get the picture with his venture capital and now sulks about, saying "and now look at the place." You could solve your financial problems by just admitting your rag is a Greenpeace newsletter. The special interest groups that hire college kids to go pestering people about giving bucks to save the work! from evil capitalists will practically throw money your way. There's no power like the liberal press. Utah has five national parks, the greatest array of state parks in the nation, great national monuments and recreation areas -- and still you Algores aren't happy! How about if they drape the state capitol with pine boughs? Will that make you happy? Rush Llmbaugh is right: you liberals aren't happy without your pity parties. Try thinking on the bright side for a change. Yes, Utah is all right Take all the national parks, national monuments, definitely national recreation land, and state parks.. .and you've got New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island all combined. I haven't even mentioned BLM land! What do you think the Forest Service and the Department of the Interior exist for? To keep people like you from dictating a tipping of the scales to one side. National lands are to be used for multiple purposes. That means recreation and it means commerce. What good is the Colorado River if people can't see it? Or have some fun on it? Lighten up and smell the rapids, dude! Tomorrow the sun will come up over eastern Utah, and the trees will far outnumber the communications towers. That is, if The Zephyr newsprint hasn't used up all the lumber in the forest To quote Chris Stevens: "What is the address of the mysterious? The zip code of the irrational?" Why, I think it's the editor's office at The Zephyr. Apparently there are small towns in America where community journalism represents values which run contraire to public opinion. window-to-windo- w ARCHES COIlDUJeU! I liked his Hanksville piece. HIGH DESERT DIGITAL Creator and Sponsor of Virtual Moab, The Canyonlands Area Information Index Will take your business beyond ordinary web sites.
