Show PAGE 29 THE ZEPHYROCTOBER 1993 If it strikes you as odd (and pernicious) that the rules governing the deductibility of corporate salaries have been so gerrymandered, join the dub. Hopefully, the new law won't do as much damage as the luxury tax the Democrats cooked up in 1990, which raised virtually no revenue for the government but cost hundreds erf workers in the boat building industry their jobs. Ids take us doser to the day when Big Brother sets the ceiling on how much money dtizens are allowed to earn in enterprises other than show business, where the sky is still the limit. It just goes to show that the "New Democrats" aren't hostile to free enterprise if the campaign contributions are big enough. ftMICsO -- MOAB MUSIC FESTIVAL MEXICAN RESTAURANT attended an evening rehearsal of the Moab Music Festival in the geodesic dome on Sand Flats Road. The music sounded great to me, but foe musicians were working hard to make it even better - polishing it for foe performance foe next evening. They took a short break from fodr labors to enjoy the sunset, but were soon back at it for another hour. These were excellent musicians and it was fascinating to watch them work. They had disagreements about how to perform foe music which were openly discussed and resolved. Their good spirits didn't mask for a second the intensity and enthusiasm they brought to their work, and their efforts culminated in a brilliant performance the following night It was as good as anything one could have seen in New York or London, and it happened right here in Moab! How did it occur? There were many and varied contributions from local individuals and businesses (capital talent, and effort) without which it never would have happened. But there were also many and varied contributions from outsiders that were just as indispensable. The result was a unique musical event of which we can all be proud. Congratulations to Leslie Tomkins and Michael Barrett for making their improbable dream a reality for foe rest of us to enjoy. They gave us some great music, and they showed us a glimpse erf foe good things that change can bring to Moab. I'm pleased to report they will bring us the second season of the Moab Music Festival next September. You owe it to yourself to attend.
