Show THE ZEPHYROCTOBER 1993 PAGE 9 'TWENTY-TW- O CITIES, TWENTY-TWCAUSES, ONE GOOD REASON TOUR" O Boston, New York, Washington, San Francisco...Moab From Robert Fulghum... "The last story in Maybe (Maybe Not) concerns a man named Vedran Smailovic, a cellist and member of the Sarajevo Opera orchestra. A mortar shell fell on the bakery in his neighborhood and killed 22 people waiting in line to buy bread. What could a cellist do? For 22 days he played his cello sitting in a chair in front of the bombed out bakery. His musical bravery protected the street from further violence for a time, and inspired other musicians to join him. In that spirit I asked myself what an author could do with a book tour. Nothing as brave, certainly, but I could call attention to him and his story and the possibility that any of us might seize the opportunity to put whatever we do to make our living at the service of the human endeavor...to make a living and to make living worthwhile at the same time."
