Show PAGES THE ZEPHYR AUGUST 1993 last year that he was planning to move, why did it take so long for the hospital to begin looking for another doctor who would do obstetrics? And why, if building an office and clinic complex was so necessary to ensure long term physician coverage, why was it only after Dr. Waddingham announced he was leaving at the project took on emergency proportions? Hospital board membeis have said for nine months that voters failed to approve the property taxing power of the district because voters misunderstood the question and believed it was an additional tax. But that's just not true. Voters in the main rejected not the hospital but the procedures of the board itself, and, combined with the vote for the change of government, were saying they want the hospital to be run differently. Blindly pursuing a new tax source will not alleviate those concerns, no matter how much money comes in. Hospital administrator Kim Hardman and SOME members of the hospital board have worked hard to keep the public involved in some of the discussions relating to health care in the county, and have been open and candid about both the problems and opportunities for the hospital. And the board's recent efforts to come up with a strategic plan for the future is laudable. But the plan is at best vague, with numbers pulled out of the sky. There has, according to the board, been interest by the management of Castleview Hospital in Price and Saint Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction in running the facility here. Castleview, in recent years, has grown in reputation e as a first class operation, and Saint Mary's has long been noted as a regional facility. If some sort of arrangement could be established with either hospital group, we might just end up with a far better medical care system than we can come up with on our own, regardless of how dollars we throw at the problem. many local and If the sales tax initiative gets on the ballot, I'll vote for it, and so will most of us. But I hope the hospital board spends fire next couple of months convincing us we're getting a good deal along with the extra funding, and that their plans for spending the money are well conceived, well planned, and well executed. top-rat- IAAAAAAJ WE SELL OUTDOOR GEAR TOO. out-of-to- GRILLED iRABBITiSAUS AGE of gear have you got?
