Show . J - A- T B4 - kX-A-t- . -- r T 'W' .ff ' !.'V Fish Springs News November 9, 1983 By Jim Good The duck hunting season continues with smell numbers of hunters trying their luck on the refuge. Last weekend we had 8 hunters pursuing the evasive ducks. . fc .. VfcH clear off the rim. In fact, the rim was destroyed. He said Hunter success is 3 birds per hunter which is about the same as last year for this same period. The weather has been almost too nice up to this time for good duck hunting. We will probably have more hunters showing up as the weather gets colder Jim Good's parents from Castro Valley, California visited their new little granddaughter early this month. They enjoyed the refuge and surrounding country but primarily they enjoyed seeing their new granddaughter. Monday evening, in the rain, a tourist drove in with a flat tire which he had run he had driven about 20 miles to headquarters. We got his tire replaced and sent him on his way back to Toole. For anyone planning a drive out into the west desert areas we suggest you make sure you have a good spare tire (maybe 2), a jack that works, a tire iron and perhaps an extra fan belt. We have had 2 or 3 people this year show up with flat tires and no spare tire, jack or tire iron! It is hard to believe that people, particularly with children, would venture out into this remote area lacking these es sentials. If Fish Springs was not here they could have been in trouble. Also, at this time of the year, persons driving ; out into the desert should take some extra warm clothes and some easy to keep food. A new book someone might be interested in I recently read about is "Hunting Secrets by Murry Burnham with Russell Tinsley, published by Winchester Press, Piscataway, New Jersey, 224 pgs. $17.95. The book covers many types of hunting and takes the readers on hunting trips through diverse regions from Mexico to Alaska.
