Show News Feat u re THE SAMPLER Friday, Jan. 16, 1981 Credit Union dinner dance Security guards apply SWAT in rescue effort Two electricians, Les Williams and Jack Carlson of Facilities Engineering, were' thankful for some SWAT team assistance on Friday, Jan. 9. TTie men were getting ready to do some repair work on the control tower at Michael Army Airfield. They were about 50 feet off the ground in a bucket attached to a high ranger truck wjien the trucks hydraulic system stalled. The men were stranded about eight to 10 feet from the control tower: Personnel on the ground heard the men yelling Mid waving their arms and they contacted the Ditto Security Office. Guards Gerry Neal, PeteThermos, . News Briefs scheduled Ivan Scow, Dallas Harrell and Merril Jensen responded to tl) call. Neal and Thermos climbed the control tower and strung ropes between the bucket and tower. One rope had safety belts attached and another was used for a guideline. The men were then safely transferred from bucket to tower and the guards assisted in their return to earth. Neal said the rescue effort took about 15 minutes. It Certainly could have been a long weekend for the electricians if the Security Guards hadnt arrived. The Dugway Post Exchange has been notified by Quaker State Oil Refining Co. that a problem exists with their 10W40 Deluxe and 10W30 Super Blend motor oils that were produced during the period Nov.. 13 - Dec. 13 of last year. The additive used in these oils during this production period will thicken and cause of internal combustion engines in temperatures below zero Fahrenheit. Although Dugway has experienced no temperatures that low as yet, PX Manager Betty Powell says the Exchange service station will either exchange one for one on those cans found defective, or refund the money to the customer. Those who have had a complete oil change with the defective oil will get a new oil change and Biter at no cost if they bought the oil between those dates. Parramore, Detachment 2, Tactical Air Warfare Center, Dugway Proving Ground, was selected as a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Squadron Officer School at riaxwell AFB, AL recently. CPT Parramore competed with 617 students and graduated in the top twenty percent of his class. To obtain the honor, Parramores selection had to be recommended by a review board and approved by the SOS Commandant. The Squadron Officer School is the first of the USAFV professional military education schools. The 8Vi week eourse is to prepare selected captains and lieutenants for command tasks required of junior officers. |
