Also under this branch are the POL (Petroleum Oils Lubricants), or tank farm for fuels, and the Clothing Store, which are located between Fries Park and English Village, and in English Village, respectively. Shipping and Receiving takes in both non-- st ocked and stocked items and issues the items to the requesting organization. Mr. Johnnie Butler and Mr. John Ham work here as material sorters and classifiers. They segregate material as it is received. The items, may come in from several sources, such as Parce Post, UPS, Motor Cargo and other commercial carriers, including locally purchased items that come in on government vehicle deliveries. THE PERSON who brings some items to post for the government is Mr. Duane Engel, who works for the storage branch and picks up items from Salt Lake City, or the Dugway Shipping and Receiving Section at Ft. Douglas. After the items are checked in by Ham and Butler, .Engel delivers the materials to the requestors, on Dugway. He makes these deliveries at the particular branch whether its in English Village or Ditto, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Once the items arrive, Butler and Ilam separate, sort and inspect them non-stock- ed for proper count, damages or imperfections. They also verify stock and requisition numbers against the original purchasing orders, making sure they are the item(s) the customer ordered before issuing it to them. THIS verification procedure is where Ms. Buna Z. Davis, one of the shipping and receiving supply clerks, comes into the picture. Davis receives from the supply management branch the users request documents after requisitions have been prepared and ' submitted to the supply source. She then matches and double-check- s against the original user request documents. When the sorters pull invoices and. packing lists on items that have come in, Davis pulls the purchase agreements and verifies them with the invoices. If all the documents are verified and correct . from page 1 after these checks, the items are officially checked in and issued to the fact that they cannot go out and spend money like they did even three the requestor. years ago. Credit has been made too accessible, says clerk who handles the paperwork for Ritchie. They just dont take the time to sit down and figure out where theyre at. But with the pressure on them, its probably easier for them to forget the 20 bills they have to pay every month. If these problems are not corrected; if they are not handled by CCCS or . discourged by creditors, the road can often lead to bankruptcy. Bankruptcy Is very damaging, Ritchie begins. Unfortunately, businesses have made it sound so easy, announcing that they have a solution to your prayers. But what they dont tell you is what lies ahead. FOR TEN years, continues Ritchie, you will not be able to buy a lot of things you wouldjike or need. It just isnt going to be there. It will always show on your credit file report whether it is a voluntary or involuntary bankruptcy. Young people especially dont want to face the fact. When I get a person who wants to file bankruptcy, I ask them what they are going to do when they want to settle down with a family but cant buy anything. Most of the time Ritchie says they reconsider. Still, there are those who go ahead with the' move anyway. I had a couple call me last week and say that theyve asked an attorney to file bankruptcy for them. Its really sad. IN FACT, it can get to the point of suicide in some cases. We did have a real bad case come in a month or so back, she explained. Without saying he was suicidal or anything at that point, I could see that in his case it could have definitely gotten to the point had he not come to us for help. The organizations success rate, however, is good, and Ritchie says she receives calls from people who thank her for getting them out from under all that financial instability.. Actually, the only time we cannot help someone is when they will not follow through on their part of the bargain, she says. We are not going to go beat them over the head with a club if they do riot bring the money into us so we can pay the bills. HOWEVER, the CCCS does have a regular collection program. If the couple is set up, lets say, to pay twice a month, Ritchie explains, and they miss a couple of payments well give them a call and ask what their plans are and what, if any, is their problem. If they still wont cooperate, we send the closure if the payment is not brought in." couple a letter for a five-da- y Most of the time they 11 call us, however, and tell us that theygot laid pff or injured on the job. Theyll say they cant pay but that theyll be getting unemployment checks and that theyll keep in touch. So we just make notations in our ledgers to the fact so that if any of the creditors call in we will have something to tell them. When they break from CCCS, though, and go it alone, Ritchie and Ben Alexander, of the Packing and Crating section of supply, begins work counselors like her see a silver linig. on a shipping container used to suit the items needs. It does strengthen them to come here, she professes, because it teaches them to manage their money better and to be obligated to one institution and no one else. We dont expect them to have zero creditors when they leave us, she continued.
