With regard to the environmentalists (and its ties to the “mega-rich,’thank you for sharing this important back story. I knew it was bad, but your latest expose has me wanting for one of those handy spy novel cyanide capsules. While its not unusual for me to find myself at odds with nearly everyone, on nearly every issue. It’s clear that the environmental groups are no better than the other so called “stewards” of the land. And its no wonder that your repeated requests for comment from the “environmentalists” go unanswered. Obviously they’ve lost all sense of honor. Hell, they might as well be citing Dick Cheney as their morale guru. You know, like..... non not not and response = non involvement, admitting dishonesty = telling the truth, admitting guilt = innocence, doing the wrong thing for the right rea- son = doing the right thing. — bliss for you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a majestic juniper off in the distance and longed to bed down under its canopy with my coat for a pillow and the stars to keep me company, only to find a shitted up mess in every direction. Wow, way to keep an eye on things pardner. Maybe I'll stuff my shirt and pants with cheat grass and bed down in the silt dust and sage brush roots. And... the Lycra clad sprocket jockeys and the retailers who followed in them? How are these opportunists any different than those who arrived at Moab in pursuit of mineral extraction in Vernal to roughneck, or Price to mine coal? And in fairness, how about yourself. Who by your own words followed Abbey’s pen just as many of the new environmental dreamers are doing today. Its happening in Salt Lake now. Yes its true Salt Lake! Successful East and West coasters are cashing in their over priced homes to come live high on the hog as managers and CEO's. Building large homes in places like the Wasatch Mountain benches, Park City and American Fork. Over crowding the ski slopes and burning large amounts of gas commuting from their exclusive enclaves. | Yes, its happening everywhere Stiles and there " is nowhere to run to escape it. Everyone wants to do everything, be everywhere, own every gadget and be a celebrity. The environmentalist followers are just the [Indulge me a bit of devilish advocacy while I | crawl down off my cross] Having read (and enjoyed) your book, I want | to speak about a couple of groups you seem to | have given a bit of a pass to in favor of bashing | the aforementioned environmental groups. I think its fair in calling out the environmentalists that we also call out the other groups | making wild stewardship claims. For example, the OHV riders that mark their territory most everywhere they go. (high marking being their way of pissing on things). All the while professing to be stewards of the land that are being treated unfairly. What a bunch of crap. They want to ride everywhere, including plac- | latest casualty es that they never knew about, or that traditionally experienced OHV use. Yet when was the | last time you actually heard a hiker whine about wanting to hike in a location traditionally used | for OHV riding, much less even want to go to] those places? Generally speaking (or stereo typing) these | people want to bitch about their rights and direct others to where the moral compass should point. While at the same time bitching about nent Cattle runners stewards of the land? I suppose if having cows shit up a huge ring of poop around the most majestic juniper for miles around, or mowing down the sage into a broken maze of chewed off roots and encouraging cheat grass to take over is your idea of stewardship, then the last eight years of national government must have been pure dimming of the mind, Salt Lake book store, and while idling around the venue I heard so much place name dropping I nearly left before the speaker took the podium. I wondered to myself, is the “twenty year old hippie’ name-dropping of his recent conquests them damn ‘librals’ telling them what they can and cannot do. Want your guns, gas and God? Then you are going to have to put up with gays, abortion and conservation. You can’t have it both ways. of global | body and soul.
