Show I t i v Sen Hatch not keeping promises irJ'j- - 1' V!-- i i f ji vV- - : 3V-'t- yY" i To the editor I would like to bring the following to the attention of the residents of Cache Valley Senator Hatch is working on a change to Article 2 Section 1 paragraph 4 of the Constitution that would allow foreign born citizens to serve as President of the United States 1 urge all Cache Valley residents to contact Senator Hatch wwwsenategovhatch and voice your concern about this change While 1 embrace naturalized American citizens and support their right to hold political office I do not believe that it is appropriate for them to be eligible to serve at the level of President of the United States Those who wrote the Constitution lived in a land ' of immigrants just as we do today! When theyj wrote this provision in the Constitution they were as aware as we are of the contribution and v strength given to this country by those who are immigrants However they deemed it appropriate that to be eligible to serve as President of die United States that an individual should actually be a native bom citi- zen In this regard our country is not that different from the tune of the drafting of the Constitution Time and time again Senator Hatch has betrayed the conservative trust given to him by the majority of the people of Utah He continues to do so Unfortunately this is not the first indication of Senator Hatch’s inability and unwillingness to hold the con-servative line For example as he i : supported the appointment of Paez to the 9th Circuit Court in San Francis-c- o Hatch declared that Paez had y promised he wouldn’t be an activist judge and would follow the rule of law and the Constitution Obviously from what we’ve seen out of the 9th Circuit Court Judge Paez has not : livfed up to what he promised Yet Senator Hatch continues to stand by intment! We need to let hi h know thiat he is not repreator senting the people he promised bq Vi: represent It is inexcusable for him to disregard the people who elected him V:yv '? ' j ’ ?'' "'V j- ' ' ?
