Show SUES PEABODY FOR DAMAGES president of portland M ne after colorado s ch ef executive papers in the damage suit at the portland gold mining company against governor james H peabody of colorado adjutant general sher man M bell hamlin secretary of the mine owners association and others connected with that body well as sheriff edward bell of teller county and his deputies who assisted in the closing down of the portland mine were served on governor pea body on friday james F burns president of the portland company refuses to discuss his plans for publication but it Is reported he has declared to friends his purpose to defray all expenses of suits that be begun in the federal court against governor peabody and others by portland miners who were deport ed from cripple creek former gov arnor charles S thomas mr burns counsel was busily engaged with mr burns in drawing complaints in the portland company s suit but he denied all knowledge of suits to be brought by deported miners according to the complaint the number of persons employed in the mine was over and these were tak en into custody by the authorities and certain ones of them picked out and placed in the bull pen to be deported to the states of kansas and new mexico the charge is made that the gov arnor gave tacit consent to this measure when he did not countermand any order given and carried into et hect by general bell and outside the authority of the governor to carry into effect the complaint further alleges that the complainant s property is ing in value from lyton idle and aska damages against the defendant in the bum of |
