Show Pamela Banasky: a friend who will be missed campus at the LDS Institute She w as bom May 28 959 in Burley Idaho to the Harry Hanson family She later married by Tammy Dillingham guest writer 1 The news came as a sudden shock to many the weekend of Nov 6 when J am Banasky unexpectedly passed away l For those who may not have known this wonderful woman Pam was an influence to all who came to know her She was the wife of J D Banasky who serves as a member of the College Board of Trustees and is a bishop of one of the LDS college wards D Banasky and they had two children Ryan age 14 and Brook bom ten 14-1- days before her mother's death The Banasky family resides in Pain also ran a hair culling salon in licr basement an ad often been known to donate haircuts to the students 9 lany recall their visits to the Banasky home were there was never a time w hen there was an abscencc of food or fun In fact several residents of the Sessions Honor Hall dormitory will recall when on a Sunday evening (he Banasky's would show up to invite anyone hungry over for Sunday dinner claiming they had "inadvertently cooked loo much forthem-sclvcs- ” j “full-dor- Price and have often opened their doors to Pam was working as an assistant advisor for the Lambda Delta Sigma PS I sorority on countless numbers of hungry There were even homesick students times when the family returned home to find their basement full of students Others will recall going to (he Banasky home needing a family to console them or just to talk and come away feeling fulfilled and as though all of their problems had vanished As Eden Guymon said it "Pam Banasky loved college students She had her Th e Eagle honor's student volunteers home always open to them Slic was like a mother to so many students who needed a home and someone to love them while they couldn’t really be home We loved her lor that She was a beautiful person through and through" Pam Banasky passed away at her home on Nov 14 1997 while holding her precious baby daughter Her funeral was held the following Wednesday She was honored in a two hour service and with countless Bower arrangements She was buried that same day in the Price City Cemetery Her loss has been felt deeply by those who had come to know her Numbers of students and community members give their si ncerest sympathies to J D Ryan and Brook “We will miss her” ""'l mily Anderson been selected as t“H the Angel Tree project direc-JLtShe worked many hours putting together an angel tree project for the community and also for the Christmas Tree Regalia Anderson was chosen for this because of her interest in service and also her talent and interest in decorating and design A sophomore from Salt Lake City she enjoys working with people and with children She has always played an active role in service and has made serving others a big part of her life d student atShe is a tending CEU on a music scholarship Anderson plays the guitar sings and enjoys writing music She is currently taking art classes and hopes to one day become an accomplished artist The person which Anderson admires most is Martha Stewart She smiles shyly "I own almost every Martha Stewart Magazine " She dreams of one day appearing on Channel 2 That is what I really want to do " She says almost as if no one believes her "I also hope to one day produce one of my own Home and Garden Magazines" Anderson has participated in multiple service projects with the CEU SUN Center One of the most recent for food that has been the the center did on Halloween The project which she is most looking forward to is a mentor program which is starting in the community This program will include sponsoring a child in the community and becoming a mentor to them The contact person for this program is Heather Harrison the program is supported by Gov Leavitt Anderson enjoys attending CEU "It is like family here I feel at home and it is my home away from home" she commented She says she would encourage students to become involved in community service "Think of others before yourself Service makes you feel like a better person If anyone is interested in service they should get involved" If school spirit by Jill Edwards feature editor student government is con planning activities to the College of Eastern Utah a better school but it is Karen Powell and Jody Hill who actively let the students know what is happening 'at their college These girls are on ASCEU's publicity committee and each week they design posters and Byers to let students know about clubs sports activities and forums The publicity committee's purpose is to involve as many people as possible in the activities "You have to be creative" Hill said "If we didn't do it we'd have a low attendance because it would earn a degree to teach at an elementary school Along with being on the publicity committee both girls are also resident assistants This involves being aware of the students in the dorms informing them of activities and acknowledging their birthdays Both girls have shared their spirit of enthusiasm with their fellow students They have dedicated time and creativity to make others aware of what their campus has to offer them Crippen speaks out for students sociable" The upcoming events include Peter Brienholt entertaining for Tuesday Night Live the Christmas Stomp a visit from Santa Claus and a stress relief party for finals complete with a masseuse Hill commented that once a person has received an ofl ice in student government sometimes they do not enjoy it Her love lor her job motivates her to work hard and make things happen "It's really fun I love it" stated I’owcll “We do have one of the more fun jobs even though it's hard" Powell likes to be involved In high school she worked for ASCEU heads Utah Intercollegiate Asso- ciation and the Curriculum and In- struction A graduate of Bountiful High Crippen chose to ran for office to help further his education "Obviously it looks good as you move on for scholarships I thought it was something I would enjoy doing” One responsibility of the academic vice president is to attend meetings with CEU faculty where a member ! of each department is present Crippen represents the student voice on concerns he feels they have Eliminating freshman seminar as a required class requiring spreadsheet or other computer classes and converting to semesters are all current issues he is discussing with the faculty The UIA is an association involving many colleges and universities where student representatives can vote on various hills that pertain tu their campus lives Current issues include giving students tax credit for paying tuition Another item discussed is initialing a voting registry and making it easier for students to register when they enroll in college The four offices serving under the academic vice president are: diversity officer Warrick Taylor ombudsman SamanthaTusi historian Don O'Hara and the representative who recently resigned These officers support Crippen and work with him to represent the students Besides being a student officer C'rippen is a junior working on his business major in accounting I le is married and after graduating from CEU he and his wife plan to move so he can go to law school Crippen is concerned about making CEU better for the students Referring to one of the bills the UIA is voting on this year Crippen asks "If we can pass laws that make a difference in tax credits for you is that going to make a difference to you?"
