Show December 7 1995 Page 3 Staff member disagrees: Dear let us Santa stay please The move to Durrant is not all bad! Dear Santa hope all is well up there at the North Pole As you can plainly see this is my yearly letter to you during this Christmas Season I'm a little reluctant to tell you what I want for Christmas because it is a rather large gift This is my second year at the College of Eastern Utah and likewise my second year on The Eagle staff as a writer and cartoonist It'S a lot of fun and I really enjoy it The other staff members are wonderful and we've been I Ann Southards editor know some people feel strongly on both sides of the issue about the newspaper moving to Durrant hut I sec both sides and to me it looks like the scales I Mary Frustration is all this ordeal over moving to Durrani Sriuxil has caused Frustration and a lot of hard feelings between people When I first found out we were moving to Durrant I was very pessimistic Once I saw the room the newspaper was moving to I said “Nope we just can't do this" That was almost two months ago and now I realize that maybe we should give it a chance I can ask myself what exactly it was that discouraged me so much about moving hut I really can't answer that question I had a friend ask me "arc you fightbecause this move ing you want to or arc you fighting it for someone else?" I realized maybe had been influenced by another opinion and hadn't given the situation a second look When talking with other staff members we could come up with many positive points about moving that countered those that were presented on the negative side are actually balanced when it comes to the negative verses the positive Now don't get me wrong as an editor do want what is best for the newspaper but as a person I need to do what I I working really hard But something has gotten us down lately It was announced at the beginning of the quarter that a big change was going to be made as far as The Eagle was concerned For as long as I and other staff members can remember we've always been comfortable where wc are in the Computer Business building (CBB) just sitting (here in the back minding are own business not causing any problems whatsoever Well Santa it seems like wc are going to have to move over the holiday break You sec the college has leased the old Durrant Elementary Schixil at the northeast comer of campus and they arc moving us over there It's an old building Santa a dingy and murky looking place with missing ceiling tiles and distasteful carpet Not even Jack Frost would like this place Besides its condition there is no security over there Someone could feel is right Two or three newspapers ago I would have been able to write a few columns worth of very unpleasant complaining hut the more I thought about it the less had to complain about Yes The the voice of the students and we have the right to voice Ihiw wc feel so maybe I disagree with others on tlie staff about this move hut I say give it a chance and for once give the administration a break Wc are here I :'gris 1 to inform but wc sure do a lot of complaining Sometimes in life you have to accept things and move on So lets move on and build with what we have for you never know what tomorrow may bring come over and easily steal our computers Thai would cause some major trouble Another thing is that my friend Randy Chandler can't easily enter that building Wc aren't even sure if the school will make the changes to make it handicap accessible I le docs so much to help the paper wc can't do without him The room they have given is small Uxi Without our big space Dani could easily chase us catch us and heat us when things go wrong or when she gets mad That wouldn't be good (Especially if she's had one of her frequent bad days with the administration) Santa basically all I want for Christmas is for our staff office to stay in the CBB We're happy here We've been really good Wc meet all our deadlines wc have good articles and wc haven't even ripped on the CEU girls' basketball coaches this year (Now that is grounds enough to keep us on your “nice" list this year) Santa wc want what's best And what's best for us is to stay where wc are Wc don't need to be pushed over to the Durrant School out into the cold (No offense) People say that you don't exist Santa But I and the other staff members believe in you and know you will help us (And no court case will be needed to prove otherwise) Thanks Santa if there is anything wc can do to make things easier let us know Wc can probably work out some free advertising Wc know you won't let us down Thank you PS Could you please have President Petersen answer ourc-mamessages and let us talk to him It's almost like he is avoiding us il examples hold true US interests may be pending on the successful disarmament of the situation in Bosnia If historical Sarajevo by a Serbian nationalist in 1914 Germany interpreted it as an act of provocation by Russia w horn they thought was acting in conjunction with lire Serbs Germany declared war on into Russia forcing the war because of an alliance held w ith Germany France and Britain both entered the war in defense of Russia AlterCar Nicholas wasoverthrown in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 the communists no longer wanted to have i place in the wai Alter Russia signed decision to send American tnxips into the region in order to help regain peace First the stability of Central Europe is a significant factor in the balance of power and stability of the entirety of by Anthony Petersen staff writer historical examples hold true the United States should not merely consider the seemingly perpetual unrest in Bosnia to be solely of Central European concern Instead vital US interests may be pending on the successful disarmament of the explosive situation There are two separate scenarios s that US should consider hi lindmg support lor the recent ll Europe of which llS is certainly concerned with and ilierelorc of consequence The importance of world-wiil- Austria-Hungar- y e Central European stability is evident through empirical analysis of World War II policy-maker- When Duke Ferdinand o!
