John Strauss and was first presented by the Ballet Russe in 1940 "It is very popular with ballet companies and t7KT the world over” Gwyther said The fust act of Classical Celebration will include excerpts from "Paquita" with choreography by Marius Petipa and "Serenade" a Balanchine ballet Gwyther said Original choreography by Gwyther will round out the evenings of classical ballet Then for a change of pace Ballet Rep wni present a completely different program Contemporary Concepts featuring works of modem ballet jazz and modem dance of portions of works Contemporary Concepts will spotlight wiC Paul Robert and last It Joffrey Taylor highlight by year's "River” arid a new work by Gwyther entitled "Lumen” The program offers a diverse range of music by Henry Mane ini Paul Simon Aretha Franklin and wen-kno- Enya Emery County audiences win enjoy a sampler of numbers form each concert when Ballet Rep goes on the road on May 12 presenting a program at 7:30 pm in the Emery County High School auditorium This year's artistic staff includes Kandice Olsen associate director Todd Olsen musical director Ruth Jemigan assistant director and C Arthur Mortensen technical director Ballet Repertory Ensemble Inc is composed of classically trained dancers both community members and college students There are 22 members and three apprentices supplemented by guest artists The company concerts are funded in part by grants from the Utah Arts Council the National Endowment for the Arts and the College of Eastern Utah Tickets for all concerts are $3 and can be purchased at the door A special advance ticket sale will be held for the Price concerts at the Geary Theatre box office on May 14 13 and 16 from noon until 2 pm All seals in the Geary Theatre are reserved so tickets purchased early will assure best seating Gwyther said Theatre Department recognizes outstanding alumnus with award Carbon County resident Kay Bunnell wu selected as the third recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award from the CEU Theatre Department He wu acknowledged at a special presentation prior to the May 4 performance of The Importance of Being Earnest Life-lon- g Bunnell accepted the award with a humorous speech that displayed his excellent stage presence and audience appeal CEU theater instructor Lee Johnson said that Bunnell hu been an active CEU's drama program for well participant in the Community Theatre more than four decades with memorable performances in productions like Harvey Barefoot in the Park Gays and Dolls and The Mask Man u u "Whether he is performing on stage or providing technical assistance backstage Kay is one of the most dependable pleasant and talented participants we have in Carbon County's theater community" Johnson uid A BYU business graduate Bunnell served u student body president at Carbon High in 1933-3- 6 (His two sons Beit and Jim were both elected AS CEU presidents while attending CEU) Following service in the infantry during WWff he returned to Price where 42 years later he joined the family business taking semi-retireme- nt Previous recipients of the theater award include Kay's brother Judge Lance Wright Boyd Bunnell and Emery
