Rostkowski who now lives in Ogden is the author of the g After the Dancing latest and her novel Best of Days award-winnin- Friends On her work she draws upon feeling she senses from old photographs: the fear in the face of a great aunt standing between her brothers who are about to go to war the joy ir the face of her mother and aunt ther little girls of 7 and 9 sitting on the grass on either side of their uncle who hsd returned home safely At the CEU reading she will read rom her book Best of Friends a story about three Wasatch balloons caramel apples and games for candy Front high school students learning about friendship and independence against the backdrop of the conflict in Vietnam The book will be available for purchase and signing at the reception following the reading Travis Mann staff writer by Dracula perfomance adds a bite to the 1989 Halloween season pro- vided Tuesday at tha Annual Halloween Carnival sponsored by student government Other highlights Included helium CEU's Geary Theatre was mysteriously transformed last Monday Tuesday and Wednesday from a college theatre stage to an abandoned castle in a small town in England Howling hounds and rolling mist set the air for the theatre production of "Dracula: A Tale of the Nosferatu" written by George Luce and George Maguire The story takes place in the house of Dr Seward who runs a sanatorium Mina Dr Seward's niece falls ill with a strange malady A specialist Dr Van sU Mina's beau Julie's accent and expressions made her delivery totally believable Todd came across as a wimp that probably needs a nighilighL It gave the play the lightness that it required The costuming wu very well done with elaborate dresses and ritzy royalistic attire for the Count But the real thrillers of the play were the set designers and crew I was quite impressed with the design of the set mixed with special effects that really made this play worth seeing I wu even more impressed when I saw how the set wu designed ed Theatre Review Helsing is called in to help Dr Van Helsing begins to On inspecting the set I found it wu built on wheels and could be turned completely around to reveal the set for suspect Dr Sewards neighbor Count Dracula of being the cause of all the trouble In the end there is a final the second act The special effects also added bringing confrontation between the forces of good and the forces a real feel of the supernatural to the stage Rolling fog of the evil Count Dracula and flashes of light added to the season's spookiness The sight of many new faces brought a fresh and fun ness to the play that wu much needed The characters The play wu an entertaining one especially were portrayed admirably with an especially brilliant to the younger audience who were fascinated by the performances by Julie Taylor who played Elizabeth "undead" appearance of Count Dracula Badcri the maid and Todd Devcnish who played CEU's next performance is "The Lion in Win Johnathan Marker reporter for the London Times and ter" set for Nov 30 Dec 1 and 2 |
