Trujillo who is described by his own daughter "a doctorBut not the kind that can help anybody!" joined the CEU faculty over thirty years ago He became CEU's first Professor Emeritus lut yev after taking partial retirement In addition to the innumerable students he instructed and mentored the chemistry and mathematics expert wu also responsible for much of the liveliness in the Science Department Fellow instructors Robert Torgcrson Norman Larsen Wilson Henderson Lavcll King Lamont Arnold and President Michael Petersen will have their retribution at the roast which is open to the public For more information or to make reservations contact the CEU Development Office rapier-lik- e ber 1 1 u Former CEU student will initiate science and technology workshops Drafting Instructor Dan Wbsmar assies a student with a problem on the computer Drafting of the future by Cordy West staff writer The College of Eastern Utah has certainly been keeping up the times All around us the world of technology has been advancing by leaps and bounds and it takes a shrewd investor to know which moves are a positive step forward CAD's (Computer Aided Drafting) is one such step forward and CEU has been there every step of the way Computer Aided Drafting falls under the engineering trade and technical departments at CEU Under the direction of Dan Wissmar beginning and advanced classes are taught in the Career Center CAD's can also help those students who are aspiring into the fields of interior design engineering drafting auto machine shop and electronics Artists can even benefit from the program Although the concept of using computers to advance students in these fields seems fairly new the program has been going for Upon completing the CAD's program students can receive a certificate of completion after one year or an applied science degree with emphasis in drafting after two years According to Wissmar over the last three years CEU has placed students all over the country from Fort Lauderdale to Denver Coal mines find that the program gives their companies a definite advantage and UP&L has also hired students with a CAD's degree Wissmar said there is a growing trend of jobs that prefer CAD requirements in their job descriptions With the popularity of the program Wissmar said they had to turn away students because the classes have been filled for the first time this year The program is off and running" Dan Wissmar is a native Californian who moved to Price in 1978 to teach the drafting classes at CEU With the introduction of comyears puters into the field Wissmar feels confident that CEU is keeping up Starting in 1984 the with the advancements of technoCAD's program had a single Apple 198S instructors In the program logy Students need only basic switched to IBM upgrading the knowledge of drafting to begin in in bits of more handle to the program Over time Wissmar computers formation The program now has 12 feels that people will sit up end take notice of the CAD's program and see computers acquired on a grant and the advancement of students in their the future outlook predicts even more computers may be needed to prospective fields According to Wissmar the CAD's program is "the handle the growing number of best kept secret on campus" Dr Richard A Robb a pioneer in biophysics and director of computer research at the Mayo Medical School in Rochester Minn will be the first alumnus to return to the CEU campus to discuss future trends in science and technology in a yearlong series of professional development workshops entitled "Excellence in Science” Funded by a $4000 gram by the US West Foundation the workshops will help students and faculty gain a greater understanding of the accelerating developments in the fields of science medicine and technology from former students who have established themselves as leaders in their fields The participants will lecture classes conduct working sessions with instructors and present public demonstrations Dr Robb who is helping the future course of medicine with the development of the Dynamic Spatial Rcconstructor will kick off the series November 14 in the Science Building A native of Hiawatha Utah Robb studied mathematics on a ne charged with developing a high scanspeed ner known the DSR x-r- ay al u The most advanced scanner in the DSR produces images world the it of the functioning human body exists-- in dynamic motion The fifteen-to- n u three-dimension- al g tall device takes radiographic motion pictures inside the body and electronically reconstructs video of the internal organs Dr Robb believes that this technology may one day two-stor- y- twenty-foot-lon- completely eliminate the need for exploratory surgery Valedictorian scholarship at CEU and later went on to the University of Utah In 1972 one year after earning his PhD in computer science from the U of U Robb wu invited to conduct research a National Institute of Health postdoctoral fellow at the Mayo Medical School's Biodynamics Research Unit He soon became a member of a distinguished team of researchers u While the Mayo Clinic's development of the DSR hu gained world-wid- e recognition Robb hu continued his research with the goal of creating a total body-scanni- device The lectures presentations and demonstrations in the "Excellence in Science” workshops will be open to the public Times and locations of the workshops will be made public when finalized Newly founded Rodeo Club sets date for meeting eJiior" Sl'w"k' CSlf1 Campus Club 51 f National Intercollegiate -- A meeting hu
