Show 8 — CEU — Friday April 30 1982 Wade Hope cuts into a fast pitch adding a single to his batting average Dismal season ends this weekend for baseball nine By Dee Haber Some success in ference games con- last weekend was felt by the CEU baseball nine against Snow arch-riva- ls and Dixie The Eagles did not fly so high with the Badgers dropping both games but bounced back Saturday to split the double-headwith Dixie The Eagles took the field with hopes of salvaging some respect of a dismal season Joe Bossik was given the er 2-- 19 nod to start on the mound The first inning CEU gave up two runs a foreshadow of what was to come by the Badgers The second inning did not look much brighter for the Eagles as Snow started the long inning off with a solo homer Bossik continued throwing in spite of the long ball Snow spanked another homer with two on base and collected three runs Shane Millet was called to relieve the frustrated hit yet another homer with a man on base and the inning was ended Snow 8 CEU 0 The game remained quiet until the sixth Snow carved two more runs CEU was finally awakened when Stoker Bossik and Durfer slammed base hits before Bobby Fratto hit a triple for two RBI’s The game ended with Snow on top 11-- 2 Dave Johnson started for Eastern Utah in the bottom half of the double header After the initial inning the Eagles looked to be in pretty good shape The roof fell in on the Eagles in the second inning with the help of two doubles and a triple Snow put in seven RBI’s two looked like a real team The game was close Snow homeruns The fourth inning was much similar to the second This time only 4 runs batted in CEU did manage to put it together for one ran throughout Going into the bottom the seventh the Eagles were down 5 Raymond and Fratto both got on base and set up Kenny Tulane’s heroics Tulane stepped to the plate and of disgruntled Eagles on the field Roscher did not fair as well as in previous outings He gave up six runs in the first two in- nings before being relieved by Bossik A bright spot for CEU was Kenny Tulane who got one RBI in the second An injury in the third seemed to spark the Eagles Paul Raymond gof things started with a double for an RBI The Eagles proceeded to score three more score 7- Dixie The fifth inning saw the last of the CEU scoring Mark Ingram got an RBI The game ended with Dixie on top 11-- 6 Game two started with Johnson oh the mound The Eagles looked like a 5 different team They played together and 7-- cracked a three ran homer to give the Eagles their first conference victory When asked how it felt to win the first game coach Woodward replied "I am proud of these young men for playing to win and not giving up all hopes" The Eagles’ next home games are today and Saturday at 1 :30 pm Softball season ends The short season for the lady Eagles softball team came to an end Thursday with UTC visiting CEU The Eagles finished with a 10-- 8 record and a second place finish The battery of Janean Perkings as pitcher and DeAnn Kidd as one of the leading hitters led the way throughout the short season Beth Ann Roscher explained that the team did a lot better than their record showed Perkins said that she wss very surprised in the way things turned out for the lady Eagles due to the inexperience of the team She added "It feels good to have a team that will back you up and do a good job" When asked about next year Miss Roscher said "We’ll do as good or tetta next year" The Eagles will miss ° Elaine Hillas and Gwcn Thomas along with departed coach Kathy Miller N Py Photo by Thu Raomoaoon Right fielder Paul Raymond fires the ball Die hard Eagles not only had a dismal season to contend with but also cold weather conditions |
