OPINION Recruiting students is a problem for CEU in-sta- te Unlimited recreational possibilities By Lisa Gines is a of the afternoon Ah! Spring what a wonderful season It time of rebirth for the active soul that has been hybernating within your body for the winter It is a time where we shed winter coats and galoshes for shorts and sandals It is a time we listen to the Beach Boys instead of “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” It is time when pale white skins turns to golden brown or beet red whichever the case may be It is a time when once devoted students retreat from the books and surrender to the glorious sun More important spring is a time for recreation There are so many recreation possibilities available So often I hear “There’s nothing to do” or “I’m so bored” I ask you who’s fault is that? The answer is obviously yours Instead of expecting the fun to come to you You go to where the fun is Some suggestions are playing tennis Spend an afternoon at the Price City tennis courts The courts can be utilized at no cost Guys it’s a inexpensive date All you need is a girl tennis racket and tennis balls Girls it’s a great way to meet guys You pretend you don’t know how to play and go up to the best looking guy and ask for pointers You can always play preppy tennis hit the ball until it is lost and then go drink mint julips the rest Spend the weekend at Lake Powell with a group Southern Utah offers a variety of background for water skiing swimming and hiking The sun belt’s heat makes tanning unavoidable and the weekend enjoyable How about spending an hour at the Prehistoric Museum? How many of you knew there was a museum in Price? Well there is and it’s run by the College of Eastern Utah and is free of charge Offer your services to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program in Price Spend an afternoon with a child who would love to play frisbee or a game of softball Ladies (and gentlemen) window shopping with friends allows you keep up on the lastest fashion trends as well as the latest gossip Picnicking in the mountains give you a break from the everyday hustle and bustle The scenery is your pleasant reward for an exhilarating hike up a mountain face My last suggestion is my favorite Find a tall shade tree sit under and read a good book Enjoy the beauty that God has given us The possibilities are unlimited so when spring fever hits and you don’t feel like school work don’t sit home let your spring soul out and go wild of friends By Dennis Rupp College of Eastern Utah during fall quarter had e an attendence of 1100 with 760 of those students Why does this low attendence exist? In comparing CEU to Snow in distances from Salt full-tim- Lake or Provo they are almost the same but that is where the comparison ends Price is a thriving metropolis next to Ephraim There is much more one can do in Price and the community doesn’t shut down at 10 pm CEU vs Dixie — Dixie’s main drawing point is the weather but you can get that tan here too Dixie had snow and below freezing temperatures this past winter According to Brad King coordinator of the high school relations department “The biggest problem is we aren’t visible enough outside of Eastern Utah mainly because we receive little media coverage from Salt Lake and students don’t let people know about CEU when they visit home” The majority of the studentbody from the County area is made up of athletes The disadvantages in recruiting right now is our lack of a winning tradition and adequate physical education facilities players arc less that is interested in facilities than are ifiorc why you will sec players on our said next Jeff coach Jorgenson (cams year" The advantages of attending CEU for the freshman athlete far outweigh the bad First a good freshman can enter the program and earn a starting position Also the coaching staff will work with you on playing two sports This policy enabled me to play both football and basketball this year where somewhere else I couldn't have There were many reasons why people picked CEU over the other schools “They offered me the best scholarship and I felt I would have a good chance to start” said Dee Huber a freshman football player from Cyprus High Mike Barrett a returning sophomore fooball player from Kearns High said “I thought there would be more playing time at a junior college before trying to play at a four-yeprogram John Roscher a sophomore football and baseball player from Joseph Utah was familiar with the Snow College programs and thus decided he would non-Carb- “Out-of-sta- The saga of the Anasazi war mamas continues ByToddGorishek Well guys we had another exciting trip in the metamorphosis Instead of pale and scary war mamas I saw wilds and once again the CEU coeds were the main women who had colorful eyes and lips and hair attraction I believe the last article in the Eagle about these that was neatly in place It was my guess that they obdid this because their natural state was too nature war mamas made them selfconscious It was oriented vious that almost every coed brought along her It seems that several of the coeds had a visit from favorite friends May B Lean and Max Factor a member of the wilds throughout the night He was The trip last week was in Capitol Reef National none other than a striped skunk Park and as luck would have it the coeds had He seemed to be quite a casanova as he apaccess to restrooms with hot and cold running — water and their favorite companions mirrors parently serenaded each coed in her tent He must have felt right at home with the war mamas It was interesting how most of these wilderness tents extra before their because he waddled and scampered over their in time coeds spent study heads and mingled amidst them munching on a coming out It looks as if their fear of the Fuji Snickers and chewing on a peanut better sandwich Autofocus is showing This extra time apparently This reminded me of the story of “Beauty and the was still not long enough because when we got to a available restrooms war the were where Beast” but who was who? place There was one coed who looked especially good in mamas flocked in the morning for spending all night wrapped up in a After we got up the first morning we all went to the ranger station and listened to the ranger tell us sleeping bag Her hair looked as if she hadn't even about the history behind Capitol Reef and the gone to bed the entire night I’ve found out however her secret for her ’just brushed look’ surrounding settlements Throughout the talk the This sleeping beauty was seen brushing her hair coeds slowly wandered in and I realized that in that I event taken that had restroom a great early in the morning and then going back to bed It place — is my guess that this is an hourly event throughout though could only happen in the insect world the entire night so her head never rests long enough to mat and tangle her hair Aren’t war mamas amazing? This brings me to another point war mamas are very gullible On our way to Capitol Reef we Editor Lisa Gines stopped at an old uranium mining camp and found Mike Barrett Sports Editor a few pieces of uranium ore Well after good ol’ Don David Spencer Photographers Tim Rasmussen Burge explained its radioactivity factor to us Chavez Richard Reporters someone brought up an outrageous story about Jerry Hansen women who used to shave their legs with this Todd Gorishek radioactive ore It only took a few quick strokes Tammy Bracken Ada Scovlll and the hair fell right oft and left the leg as smooth Dee Huber as a babe's bottom Well one coed was thoroughly Dennis Rupp Severeld impressed and very excited about this new method Larry Copy Advisor Polster Susan Adviser of shaving and quickly set out to find her own ’razor’ The things a war mama won’t do to make herself look good THE EAGLE The official student publication of the College of Well guys that’s all for that trip but I feel there Eastern Utah Price Utah The Eagle Is dedicated is a lot more to come in the next few trips Unto give Information and service to tne student body it represents fortunately I get the distinct feeling that the not The in The editorial opinions expressed Anasazi war mamas are planning something So Eagle do necessarily reflect viewpoints of administration stay tuned next issue for Anasazi Antics or faculty students or staff Gorishek Gets It Good i i 1HE EflGLE SMFF I on te in-sta- tes out-of-sta- te ar rather attend CEU DcAnn Kidd a basketball softball and volleyball player from Layton High said “I knew I would have the opportunity to play here and was given a scholarship” Venus Hare a freshman volleyball basketball and softball player from Layton High said “I came to CEU because I was offered a scholarship I thought Kathy Miller was a good coach and thought I'd learn a lot from her CEU is a place I felt I could get a good cducaton because a good coach make or breaks a team” and as In my opinion CEU is very under-rate- d members of the studentbody all of us should try to destroy the myths the CEU community is labeled with Looldng for Wanted - male students to compete in the first annual Mr CEU contest on Tuesday May 4 at 7:30 pm In the Theatre Geary CEU KUIr talent tuxedo ant hollering contest Can didates will be judged by an impartial all-fema- congregation Applications le are available in the ASCEl The competition include a wet T-shi- ii will rt student Mssl governmen |
