Show CEU— Tuesday December 2f 1975 “ 2- - The Eagle Listens The Eagle speaks Dear Editor: I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to everyone A Bicentennial Message' As the Bicentennial approaches the College of Eastern Utah’s mascot the Golden Eagle is perhaps busting his breeches with the pride of knowing that it was possibly his great great grandfather who so impressed our Forefathers to honor him with the title of “National Bird of the United States” Like the mighty eagle who is capable of soaring over all the storms and turbulent weather conditions our Forefathers whether leaders of concerned fanners writers of stirring propaganda or generals commanding willing troops rose above the turmoil and suppression of the English Crown on the strong wings of trust loyalty and determination to be free to soar unoppressed over and through the vast open space of their “Land of Promise” The Americans of yesteryear trampled through in-- t lement weather conditions fought their way through the Urdships of starvation and unfertile soil tangled with wild Dtasts and vermin struggled to settle vast wilderness leaving behind them footprints of success which the fiercest winds of time and the most vicious storms of industrialization have not so much as troubled or disturbed These impressions made by the “sure-footed- ” individuals who made the conception and birth of our United States possible form a path that — if followed step by step — can only lead to freedom of spirit and peace of mind for all Americans It is probable that the Eagle was chosen as the National Bird because of its capability to protect its nest and its young or of its persistency in teaching its young at an early stage in life how to mount up on their own wings support their own weight and experience the sensation of freedom Thus as our minds go reminiscing through the pages of history this Bicentennial year let us notice how similiar were the traits of our early Americans and the Eagle — more important than that let us plan for our future America root up our nests of apathy and restore unto our generation the “Eagle Spirit” of pride honor and freedom who made lounge the student redecorating— possible project especially my interior design class I Indy admire the time effort and talent they devoted to the project Many people thought the project was impossible in a two day period It’s really rewarding to see what cooperation good humor and plain hard work can ac- need to take a look at our own behavior and attitudes The garbage doesn’t just happen It begins with one person who leaves a pop can on the floor a candy wrapper on the table or abuses a piece of furniture Think aboutit!
